Nice walding

Nice fab work there
One of my bugbears with the 300 is the gear selection which has a throw as big as a Olympic Shot putter
, what would the chances be of you making another shortshifter to send my way in exchange for monies
?

well, the shortshifter is part of a few more upgrades as it actually doesn't fit now because the lengthened gear leaver will hit the propshaft in neutral and on gearchanges.
in short words i'm going to be busy welding and fabricating my own propshaft soon
got some very intersting news coming up soon, waiting for parts atm

Sorry for the late reply, been working away with no net access.
Your developments sound very interesting
Is there a simple way to make a short shifter for 300's then? With Beetles you just unbolt the shifter and put a plate in place for 50% reduced throw

Great photoshoot! First pics I've seen of the MkIII with the rear spoiler on. I thought you preferred the "clean look"? Suits it well IMO ...
EDIT: am I going to see you at Erik's on Friday
?
Cheers
Tom

Re: Anjo's Project Car: 1986 340GT Special, B14Turbo
that seems very likely to happen
i'm bringing the blue 340 along as it needs a fresh MOT.
been busy this morning and afternoon!!!
the target was the merge collector, as i didn't had a clue yet where to start i first fabbed the main pieces out of a bit of galvanized steel pipe
sawing:

drawing the first cut-line for the angle grinder;

tack 2 together (forget the horizotal cut at this pic)

cut to the flat length

and cut to spread the pipes

untill there's a mirror-presentation of the 2 merged pipes

as i now had figured out where to start, the stainless was next and i started right after lunch:
sawing the pipes:

on the lathe to smoothen out the saw-cuts and cleaning the inside;

draw the cut; and cut them with the angle grinder!

after the angle-grinder (left), smoothened out the cut on a beltsander (right)

then, the 2-pipe merge;

wich is spot-on!

welded the inside of the sharp merge-tip on a very low setting (10/15A) to smoothen out the cuts

same story with all 4 pipes, with the merge-cut perfectly centered

allmost a perfect circle in each runner;

when it's all done i'll grind all these welds out from the runner to port the collector, making it flow the best as possible.
flange on;

same story, a bit of grinding needed to make it flow as best as possible.

ready to tack the flange on!

and welded the flange;

welding the cross of the pipes on top are sheduled for this evening

Anjo, where dou you live?
In a machine shop??
You seem to have the ability and the means to do just about anything.
With metal.
I doubt you can fly, or punch through walls or anything.
oooooooor can he?

Cool! Just be prepared for a shock when you see how far away my daily still is from getting a fresh MOT ...volvodspec wrote:that seems very likely to happeni'm bringing the blue 340 along as it needs a fresh MOT.

Re: Anjo's Project Car: 1986 340GT Special, B14Turbo
there's more
...
couple of action pics,

starting-arc

welding-arc

the edges in the collector wich i smoothened out with the TIG torch:

same story for the manifold flange;

this way, even less material is lost for the porting of the collector and manifold flange.
the merge collector is all welded up now!

very happy with it, as all those different angles and curves are quite difficult to do with a TIG welding machine!!!!
so next is porting everything, flattening the flanges on a CNC mill etc...
after that; this package:

will find it's destination in a certain red engine bay soon, to get welded up into a all stainless manifold....
