You have a GLS? Since when? I seem to have missed a massive chunk of whats happened on here. I was mostly after some door trim, bumpers and whatever else I fancied.

That pic was taken before the raid in the afternoon. Bumpers already off the car for MCHUDD. Door trims still on and in it.

I won't be passing for sure until next Xmas, when it'll probably be no more. It's already sat just over 12 months there. If you're after something that might be still on it, contact the breakers direct. I'm not sure if they send stuff, but they will pull stuff off if you can't be/not able to do it yourself. If you have a particular part in mind, just ask me in case I've already had it off myself.

Ahh ok no problem, the bumpers were the main thing really as spares.

Bumpers still on my GLS, can't remember condition off hand though. You are more than welcome to them if you arm yourself with spanners!

Awesome. Don't spose I could have the torque tube too? What's the story then? Is it a breaker?

Yes, it's a breaker. Torque tube I havn't offered you as it's on the island, main reason I got the car was it's an interesting ratio diff wise and TT conversion is a long term project.

If the TT gets replaced then you can have it, but it'd need collection from the island. Box stays though, I'm not convinced that'll be as easy to get another of :?

Check the label on the gearbox mate, I'm not sure if all GLS's had taller diffs. Mine certainly didn't and would sit at exactly the same RPM as a GLT at 70mph (very early 3000rpm). The thing had only done 44k and a well documented history so I'd be very surprised if it had had a gearbox replacement, the only non original thing on the car was the middle and rear exhaust boxes!

Did you get GL model there or was GLS the base model 360 during all years? We had GLS but only at early 360 cars, it became GL later and those had 3.36 diff, where our GLT had 3.64 or something like that.

Can't remember if there was even 3.2X ratio on some, that might be bit rare.

Parts books say that a 3.28 exists, but yeah, no idea. I'm really after a 3.36, which is what I'm hoping that GLS diff is but I havn't checked!

Basically, if I ever invest in a slipper, I want to make sure I have the ratio I prefer, I know what 3.64 is like and would like a stint with a 3.36 soonish.

Anjo posted the diff ratios here once:

I think that posted list can't be 100% accurate, my 1988 autum model has 3.36 or at least speed at limiter does match to that as well as shift points or then someone has swapped diff to my car, which I doubt very much. Maybe different markets got bit variation or maybe it is that rule about putting parts still on shelf to car?

I would think that 3,45 might be better, with my car 4th is useless when driving at town and when shifting to 3rd it is too big step, often hoping to have gear between 2nd and 3rd, also at steep hills 4th is needed, still not quite as bad as french crap with too large wheels, it does not like from hills at all. 3.64 is probably lot better for spirited driving though.

I thought I would resurrect this thread to post these two publicity photos for the Black Beauty which I haven't seen before.

And also ask Rich if he's made any progress with this car?

This UK brochure cought my eye the other month:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/370772655592
apparently including "2 sides devoted to the 343 BLACK BEAUTY, a 200 UNIT ONLY LIMITED EDITION in BLACK with RED COACHLINING".

Why do I care? Up until now I'd never seen proof that the BB was actually sold as a "Black Beauty" in the UK. I've only seen Dutch brochures calling it by that name:
http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... 5&p=169053
... most others were Black Diamond, Silver Star, 343 DL-C etc.

I'd often doubted a bit whether they'd actually called the UK limited edition cars "Black Beauty". I mean ... it's a bit girly, isn't it ;-)

Not that I'm dissin' your car or anything, Rich.

Cheers

Tom

Nice pics Sion. What market version is it?

Well I still drive it. I shall have to look back and fill in some gaps.

Two pages missing for the price. Anyway we can only account for 1% left 35 years later (2/200).

mock sm2

Now the temp has turned, it's time to wear out some cheap Chinese tyres. I'll need to see if I can bag a wheelie Felgenbaum too in a fortnight between beer and footie.

Bias ply tires are somehow much nicer than radials in older cars, bit difficult to find of course.
