Fixing that part has definetly affected how engine gains rpm after 3000. Also when accelerator floored engine feels stronger than before. But still mainly when lower rpm it tends to cough if I floor it fast. When at idlling at neutral and I floor accelerator it coughs few times and and then starts gaining rpms correctly. Before coughing it is not very healthy, thin power.
That temperature compensator seems to be very important for carbs proper functioning. I still have problem that it sucks air at idle, but maybe it is normal? However I applied filter to there so no more jamming will happen.
Engine coughs
I've thought of getting the carb adjusted properly...
There's nothing really wrong with it exepct that the car once failed near my home.
I was driving this pretty steep uphill when the engine stated coughing.
I gave it some more gas but the engine just stopped.
Started it again and it has worked fine for over 100km now...

Actually my problems did start when carb was adjusted by professional. Before it has only annoying effect when driving slowly, it felt like throttle would been 100-0-100% every second.
They did change few gaskets and then adjusted it. Car did run very poorly after that. Then my father did adjust it by ear and it runs fine now, except that little cough. Well, it will not be problem at winter, then it work ok all time. Also then it is not possible to floor it rapidly, lol.

They left your carburettor in such condition that it sucks sand in? Sounds like a real pro to me...jtbo wrote:Actually my problems did start when carb was adjusted by professional. Before it has only annoying effect when driving slowly, it felt like throttle would been 100-0-100% every second.

You have to be lucky these days if you want to get your car fixed properly without getting ripped off.

My Volvo dealer adjusted my carb just before the vehicle inspection. They did a FANTASTIC job, the car wouldn't start again with a warm engine. The inspection was over, everything was ok, the guy said: "your car is in perfect condition, see you next year!" I try to start the engine to leave the vehicle inspection center, impossible... First try, nothing; second try, nothing, third try, nothing! Finally the car started after a very very long try... I was angry cause I thought "ok now it's the end, the car will fail "thanks to" the idiot in the Volvo garage who adjusted the carb... I said to the guy "I did a mistake, choke with a warm engine > to much fuel..." and he let me leave. That was a bad day.Juha wrote:They left your carburettor in such condition that it sucks sand in? Nowdays there is indeed difficult to find place that fix car properly. Specially when we are talking about 300-serie that has not very good reputation in here.
I think that here is 4 car repair shops now, 2 of them I have used, both bad experience. Other 2 are way smaller and I'm in doubt that they could have any better quality of service.
Once both of my driveshafts were loose after they did change clutch, luckily other garage spotted that, it was after I pointed and asked why these looks like loose?
That is why I study as much as possible from cars and learn to repair them. I know only computers, not very much of cars, but every fix I can make is new victory
