Lol guys, had not checked over here and just found out from other forum that there is load of snow in your little island

We use winter tires with studs mostly as most of winter roads are covered ice and snow here.

Here is pic of my tires, they should have studs, but specially rear tires have none, I don't understand how it can happen so

Some have measured 5 inches of snow at Birmingham area, quite lot for you, is traffic completely mess there now?

Must be quite special there. Be careful with car, snow becomes quite slippery when several cars drive over it, all season tires are no use at all, first you will be ok with grip but when you need to stop brake pedal is not suddenly working, intersections will be really tricky

I guess this is global warming, weather has changed quite quickly in few years, I'm bit worried what it will be in 20 or 30 years, do we need to go some bunker when there is storm etc.

Guys just to let you know, have had loads of fun driving my volvo 440 with winter tyres. Was meant to be picking up my 360 this weekend from the isle of man,time did not permit. Got used to winter tyres in Germany, had so much fun tonight overtaking 4x4s in a 440

Indeed not - I can tell you for sure that it wasn't anything to do with snow, there was nothing south of Winchester from about 10am Thursday!

haha yes, you'd laugh at some of the situations yesterday - despite them forcasting this weather a week ago, the roads were still a mess. 360 traction is also rubbish without any weight over the rear axle in these conditions.

360 is one of best RWD cars at winter, traction is not bad but sure you need proper winter tires and some training

FWD cars get away much easier as they have all weight over front tires, but when those loose front grip there is nothing you can do, just sit and wait to speed come down, in our cars you hardly ever encounter such bad situation

I saw some clips at bbc web page, quite bad traffic jams there, they also closed some roads. There was also some incar clips, they drove quite fast for such weather and tires you have

Last time we had snow a few years ago I took my 340DL out for a play round the country lanes in the evening. Muchos fun, and you would think with skinny tyres, RWD and a fair bit of weight to push them in you'd have a fair bit of traction, but my mate in his little FWD 106 was running rings round me. At one point I got stuck on a really small incline and had to reverse about a mile down the road! The 106 cleared it easily

However, the powerslides were cool

The car I'd really like to have back in these conditions is the XR4x4, that would be all conquering in this weather, and HUGE amounts of fun too

No, they're crap in the snow - I'd say a FWD car is better, atleast that has significant weight over the driving wheels.

Although your 340 or 360 didn't have 195 wide tyres....

I'm with Steve, on my 195 tyres the 360 isn't good for getting away due to the lack of weight, however once moving I'd prefer it over most other things, except 4x4 or something on winter tyres! My brand new tyres did their first miles in the snow!

I wanted to take the 340 out to compare how it coped, however I didn't want to have any fools crash into it or get it covered in salt.

Once my 360 was moving it was fine, but if you got some muppet that stopped because they got scared, or couldn't keep rolling slowly then slip into the traffic at junctions, it made it interesting pulling away again!

I took a slight detour on my way home around some untouched roads........
