That's what I do when I see a Volvo 340... I always have a flyer in my pocket, telling about the existence of the website!  I don't do that to have 'more members', it just a way to make those people proud about that model and to make them realize that they don't have to be ashamed about that model!! And if they want talk about the 300 series, it's a good place here

Hi all

I have had a 340 for just over a month now, I needed a quick replacement for my old car which had failed its MOT and was going to cost too much to repair, I got the 340 from everybody favourite auction site. I had looked at the 340/360 series years ago but it is only now that I have actually got one, and a nice drive it is.

Welcome! What are your plans for it...just to keep it going for as long as....or is this a long-term purchase? Either way, you'll hopefully find there are a few useful folks lurking here and there :)

cheers

Hi

Took a while to reply, I need a car quick I looked at a guy on that auction site who I knew regularly sold cars which were in the condition he described them as, he happened to have 340 on that day and I had it. I had looked at the 300 series several years ago, and I know several people who are long term Volvo drivers who have never had major problems with them (less said about 480's the better though), there are also 2 scrap yards locally that deal only in Volvo which I knew about and a main dealer in town for any OEM part I need.

When I got the 340, it's a 1989 F reg model, it had done 25000 and in less than 2 months I have done just under 2000 miles, with both short work runs and other longer ones up and down the M1 and A1 and it has been very reliable, fuel consumption is not too bad unless driving round Milton Keynes, where the fuel consumption seems to rocket.

As to a long term purchase, I will be keep it to the end of this year and then until it fails an MOT which is not cost effective to repair, but if a v.nice late model 360GLT 3 door or even better a 79/80 262C came a long I would be tempted to change. I prefer older cars I although I only have basic mechanical knowledge I can follow the Haynes manual and fix most mechanical problems I don't like electrics and modern cars have far to many to worry about.

Jim,

Just a quick 'bump' for this thread - are you seriously interested in the 79 262c I mentioned? A friend has a very clean one for sale - fresh from a partial refurbishment/restoration (I say partial because it was far from a wreck before!). If you are interested, do drop me a line on the email link below, or post a reply.

cheers
