were the dlrs hard work?
no not at all really, Jay gave me some tips,
theres a screw hidden beneath the light when its closed and a spring clip between the bumper and light unit.
My problem was not knowing how to get the light up if it dosent come up itself.
Volvo kindly fitted a little white knob inside the bonnet and ,after turning it eleventy million times ,the light comes up
allowing access to the screw.

Aye mick, im sure Porsches have a similar system.
Thats why Porsche owners are affecionatly reffered to as 'knob fiddlers'.

Say a tenner each? No idea how much postage would be though mate... can look into it if he's keen.

after all that looks like the head gaskets gone , or a core plug ( do cars still have these lol)
when it came to me it had no water so top it up and check all the levels took it for a run and the expansion tank is empty in no time , water was actually coming out of the exhaust , no other signs of a leak anywhere like rad or heater matrix .
any one want any bits before its crushed ? will probably list the alloys for sale once I have spoken to the owner

Have you done the clutch swap? If so, a HG really isn't a big job. Compression test will tell you what you need to know if water is coming out the exhaust, so a good confirmation then new gasket is 25notes, and a skim is 25notes. The head off isn't that bad a job, just freeing the exhaust manifold that'll take some swearing.
I know theres a limit when it comes to fixing, but it's seems you've done the hard stuff!
Paris Blue's have a fair following, check it's not a Paris special edition. I've no idea what extra bits they come with, but it might make the interior sought after or something. If I was nearer I'd come and give you a hand mate, but good luck with it.

That is the shame
Instead of gasket it can be also the head, if head is cracked that will mean finding new head, making it straight and all that trouble with gasket, also you will only know if you pull head off, so it can be quite frustrating. Still not very expensive, but obviously more than your intended budget.
For me, if I would done clutch already, then it would not be too much to replace head with used one, but that varies of course how different persons feel about these issues.

if it was my car I would probably carry on doing it in my own time
but
the lad who owns it lives in cloud cuckoo land ,
ok it didnt need a clutch in the end so the money he had for the car has turned into a shiney new i phone
he was given two months to sort it out and the only time hes been round was to bring the battery , hes done no work himself so isnt learning anything which was the general idea.
he's 17 and has only just sent off for his provisional licence so insurance is going to be high .
if it passed an mot hes still got to tax it as where he lives theres no off road parking.
even if the head gasket is cheap to do I am not sure I have the time to do it as his two months is nearly up
we still dont know what else its going to need for the mot but the handbrake is u/s for a start so thinking a cable .
to be honest hes obviously not committed to getting it on the road so why should I be.
I still have his brothers ax sitting on the drive not being used with the mot ticking away .
dont know what it is with the yuff of today but I couldent wait to get my licence and start driving

Blimey!
Good points well made dude.

(sounds very much like me at 17.

)
Hope he gets you a drink in for what youve done so far like.
Theres disinterested, and theres just plain old rude.

Save the spanking spoil the kid, them seem to be without any backbone these days indeed. Piephone surely will get him around, specially on rainy day when he calls it with you, remember to tell him how his phone will keep his hair dry while transporting him to different location
