Maybe it wasn't a 55 - I'm sure he (my friend) said it was either air cooled, or a boxer, or both. Maybe he's remembering incorrectly...
cheers

Everything before the 55 has a 2 cilinder AC flat twin.
Could have been a 44 or 46. But those cars are dreadfully slow

You've got mail!
The Volvo 66 uses the same engines as Daf did.
And indeed I think a Coupé with those big black Volvo bumpers would look pretty good too...

yeah,
the volvo 66 has the same engines as the daf 66
the daf 66 marathon has the same engine as the volvo 66... basically a 1.3 renault engine
in what ways is the GLS different? apart from the seats and wheels? are the engines different?
a volvo 66 coupe would be cool.... quite tempted to make one myself including all the volvo badges and bumpers etc
thanks for the email and the excellent link!!!

The volvo 66 has the same 1100 and 1300 Renault engines as Daf does.
The GLS is a special model to see if the public would be willing to pay for a more expensive small Volvo. It was also a way of keeping the dealers happy while waiting for the 343.
The GLS is a very rare model, only 4001 were made. It was the most expensive 66 ever and was a bit more luxuryous. All were equipped with the 1300 engine.
Only the GLS had the special orange paintjob with phat GL striping.
The GLS is just as desirable as the Daf Marathon 1300 Coupé. (only 3507 were made) So I think I will get quite a nice price for it when a Daf/Volvofreak sees it. It is not going cheap... I like it to much to do that.
They make a pretty nice couple and I will be quite sad if I have to sell the GLS.
But there are more important things in life... like babies!
