I'm not sure what that box is (see engine pic, between the brake fluid reservoir and the alternator). I don't think my car has that?

The 343 Oettinger also had those spoilers and stripes, but was '79 MY IIRC, not '80.

Rust coming from inside? or maybe lots of stone chips allowing water between the paint and the metal? Looks a bit like some bits on mine (same paint colour too) I think it could be the paint failing around stone chips. Water gets in the stone chips then 'tunnels' along between the paint and the steel. I had a brand new bike do that once within weeks, I took it back and the gave me a new one!

Got rust like that in my boot, poke it and the metal just falls away

I'm not sure about stone chips as it seems to affect the rear hatch as well. Maybe the car got sprayed with brake fluid or something?
