Hi Pete .
have you got any boot cavity covers for sale ,( back off foggy I asked first ) Why dont we forget Gaydon and meet at Petes .
we can spend the daystriping all his cars for him ( i like the front fogs on the one he's driving LOL)
Glad you like it Steve, I was a bit sad to see it go, but I'm sure i'll be the proud owner of another one sometime soon! I'm determined to turn one into a proper road rally car in the next few years! Talking of that, i was looking at the 309 GTi thats being taken apart in my garage and the calipers seem to be the same as the 300 ones, but for vented discs. Never got round to measuring the mounting points before i met with Steve to see if they were the same, but has anyone else heard of/tried this conversion?
Good work on the bumper (now why didnt i ask for one on here?!?!?), should look pretty smart once that is sorted out. Believe it or not, it was worse when i first got!!
Evening everyone! Just spent the best part of an hour and a half removing that rear bumper for Steve in the dark! It finally came off, though I had to break all four bolts which hold it on as they were all seized. So I would suggest you get a spare set before you remove your original Steve, I'll give you some measurements for them another time. It is in pretty good condition, all plastic brackets present and unbroken!
Redline, I'm afraid I don't have any boot cavity covers. I really want some genuine ones though! I was going to start a post about accessories, such as the rear quarter speakers, amp and cavity covers as they all seem quite rare. However I did make my own boot cavity cover, (cabinetmaker by trade) from MDF and added a lock too, still need to add the material, which I will do before Gaydon! Also the foglamps have never worked on my 360, the switch lights up, never got round to getting a mulitmeter on the connectors to see if there's a current or not as it doesn't seem to be the bulb. As the lenses are uncracked, the only pair I've seen in a long time, as they're so low to the ground they often pick up a stone chip or two, I've covered them over in black plastic to protect them.
James, the 60th Anniversary model isn't for breaking yet, it's my Dad's, and it is still in pretty good condition. Believe it or not it doesn't have AC, or electric mirrors. It hasn't got PAS (1986 D) or economy and ambient temperature gauges! Before we stopped using it due to the back wheelbearing, it had a new cambelt, water pump and whole new exhaust system! So if he does sell it he would prefer to sell it complete.
Cheers Pete, sounds great! I appreciate it! I guessed that the bolts would have to be broken to get the damn thing off - will probably be the same on mine. Still quite amazed at finding you with the bumper in the first place!
Should look good once I get the alloys and back bumper sorted. Although I'm quickly finding that black isn't an easy colour to keep looking clean!
Hi 5lab, Absolute brute force and ignorance with two socket sets! One each side of the nut and bolt which connects the metal frame to the car (which the plastic bumper is mounted on) where the towing eye is on the right hand side of the car. Not easy, but it has finally come off!
No problem Steve, I'll get the measurements like I said for the bolts, so you can maybe prepare some spares before you remove your orignal bumper. The alloys sound good too.
Oh Steve, just realised i didnt give you the original rear speakers. If you want them (not sure why you would), let me know and I'll get them to you!
Also, notice that both your front fog lights work
5lab, Sorry, no amazing tips! I had a pair of good fitting sockets that luckily didn't slip, wedged one in place and forced the other! I expect you could get a hacksaw in and take the head off of the bolt flush. They're not incredibly strong as I've found out, thankfully! Pete
