You just have bad tires

There is a big difference between good snow tires and bad snow tires or summer tires. And fwd is worser on snow than rwd because if you accelerate a fwd car it pulls weight off the front wheels but rwd car when acclerated pushes some of the weight on the rear wheels and you get better traction. If you think that 300-serie cars have too little weigth on rear wheels. Throw a sand bag in the boot. It should help a bit but it is fine also without it.
Once i had to drive my 360 up a slope and there was 8-10 inches snow on the road. It climbed first slope no problem but it stopped to the second because i messed up the downchange to first gear so i had to reverse and try again. And it was a success. Also i can safely say that my mothers fwd corolla wouldn't have cleared the first slope.

Lol, those two just have lead right feet I was fine in the lil snow we had. Jani, that crash on the M27 happened Thursday night, heard it all on the radio, as I was driving to pub as it was causing caos.

Oh, and as to the sign, theres loads of Up North and The North signs dotted round the M25, M1 and M40... less up norths though, which are the best finds!

As I say, they were summer tyres, and once moving, I'd rather have the 360 any day, it was just getting moving from anything other than downhill or level was near impossible, no matter how gentle you were!

Yep, no chance with summer tires, they smoothen snow to ice right when you slip even a bit and after that they don't bite so there really is not much to do. FWD is better to get it moving with so low grip, but put proper winter tires under FWD and 300 series car, you really would not even think about FWD being better after that

Nah, FWD is never better!!!!! Even then I'd rather not have the hassle, I'd walk!

I got stuck on level ground with 4wd once, but there was bit snow so that is my excuse. Needed winch again there

As you say pulling away is a problem with the lack of weight over driven wheels. Weight transfer doesn;t really come into to play because you're not moving which is why the 106 could move away. That's my excuse anyway

But saying that, if we had actually had some proper snow down here I would have chosen the 360 every time over the BX.

My Dad was fine, as his 4wd has some nobbly tyres on it! The van spins in the dry, let alone the wet, so snow it was useless!

Also, with my tryes being a bit wider, it's the same old theory as in mud, a big wide tyre isn't always best for off roading, although it's got a large surface area to spread the weight and in theory mean more grip and contact, it's less weight on one spot to cut through to solid and grippy ground. In snow as you say, it glazes over and gets icy and compacted very easily, being the first on it helps. If you can get through to something below you're fine!

At least with RWD you can have some fun and correct it when it gets dodgy!

With those winter tires that I have, it is rather impossible to park on steep hill, it won't rise that up, those are very bad tires really, I had better tires but I gave them to mother as she was driving even worse tires.

But if you take 240 or some older RWD Vauxhall and try to compete with 360 those will be much worse that 360 in similar situation, sure 106 will be best with summer tires as it will have most weight on front tires, but if you have good winter tires in all, 360 won't be on shame at all, older RWD Vauxhall in other hand will still be in trouble

We putted a bag of potatoes last year to keep the balance, as the car was parked in garage, but to get on the road on parking, it needed to climb on small hill, which was always icy. Couldn't make it without the bag in the boot. We had tyres for all types of weather, and they showed very good.
Then Imagine what we saw after we put out the potato bag ...i think potato had a ride of it's life

I prefer rwd, since balance is improved and agility is better. And you can drift better on the snow

You had Astra at 1977 already? We got Astra at some point of 90's I believe.

no we didnt get the astra until 1980 it looked like this




then in 1984 they totally ruined the shape of it by bringing out this
