Yeah you're right... rust is the critical factor really. Most mechanical problems are usually easier to fix! Trouble is most 300s have started in some place by now :(

yeah, cept for dougle (FFS).

oh well. just rang up the guy with the white one - i didnt sound too interested cos its in portsmouth, and has 120k on it (not that much, but more than a low milage jobby), - its battery has gone, and its got rust on the bonnet, but otherwise could be a bargin for someone?? just not me i think..

I saw a VERY rusty J reg car a while back. I'm afraid its more to do with how its been treated than age. You just have to get lucky. If Dougle is *that* rust-free underneath, I'd fix her/him up. Lot of work though, and you'd need the facilities...it'd cost the earth to have it repaired professionally.

A for the carb-base warping...I'd be VERY tempted to raid a 440 injection for parts - even the carb versions have the warping problem sorted out.

cheers

Alot of late 300s tend to get really rusty.. I hate that leading edge bonnet rust - even our '82 GL's wouldnt've rusted there if they were still about now. 120k is quite high (low for year, I know), but 340s are easy to find with low mileages compared to 360s.

I've found a couple that you might be interested in, which are along the south coast.. not exactly close to Brighton, but easier than Brum!

Volvo 360 GLT, E reg, 1 owner from new, 111,000 miles, alarm, lots of history, MOT end of Nov, tax end Dec, very good condition, low mileage reliable car, £75. (swadt-47-3476) Tel: (07092) 604306

To be honest, I don't think you get alot of kit with a GLS.. not even a rear wash/wipe as its the Mk2, don't think they even have electric windows or central locking. It was the lowest 360 model of the Mk2s, ie. I dont think there was a GL beneath the GLS. Most of the kit is cosmetic, chrome grille surround, chrome wheel surrounds, tinted glass, metallic paint - that sort of thing. A GLE has much more, as do most Mk3's.

are you sure? :(

still, i've got toys here that i spose i can fit.. there was a gl back then, but i'm not sure about a 360 gl. i dont care for rear w/w really, but leccy windows/mirrors/central locking would be nice..

btw, rear w/w was an option on mk2s :)

according to the broscures, the 360gls is teh top of the range luxury model, whereas the gle is the 'low' end model and the glt the 'sporty' one. god bless babel :)

I have an '83 brochure, and for the 360s there are only the GLS and GLT. Neither of which come with any real electric goodies :( But that gold one you're looking at is '85 so slightly newer. Maybe I'll just go and have a look and find out!

Let me clarify chaps...

Back in the day, the GLS was the more modern GL hatch, the GLE was the saloon (and only the saloon), and the GLT was the sporty one...hatch only.

So the GLS won't have many toys, but I think it ought to have leccy windows. The GLS was a B19A, GLE either (I think...B19E models got an 'injection' badge), and a GLT was the B19E.

cheers
