Superb. Glad this one's going to a good home! I agree with all of you on that 3drs look better, but 5drs are sooooo much more practical ... Don't think the Hercules alloys do the car justice though.
Cheers

IIRC it'll be supplied on steels, so we'll have to do something about that

Ah yes - the wheel situation is open to debate. I personally think the alloys aren't quite right for the car - they're a little too modern for the era it was made. However, the original steels were showing their age with rust spots, so I stuck the alloys on which were brand new and out of the box. They smarten up the car enormously and as they've only covered 1000 miles or so, are still in as-new condition. I'll let them go on the car for half what I paid for them many years ago,if James wants them. I originally bought them for the first GLT I bought which had terribly corroded alloys - got them home and realised they were slightly smaller and never used them!
Did you say you wanted the paint code for the car, James? I'll take a look when I get home and let you know.
Many thanks.
John.

Hi John,
Don't worry about the wheel situation. I've got a set of very early 13" R-Sport wheels which will suit it nicely. As long as the tyres on the steels are safe and legal, that's all that bothers me

If they're not...I can sling something in the car which is.
The paint code would be good. I'll have a crack at rattle-canning my front spoiler (I will also get a pro quote, but I think it will be too steep for just a few months use), as I think the big bumper mk1s look goofy without one! The 1981 cars with the mk2-style bumpers look a bit better.
cheers

Indeed it does!
It's not that bad actually, apart from the huge hole in the front box that made it sound like a V8 at idle!!! T'was hilarious fun driving it back and it has a much nicer gearshift/clutch/low down torque than your V70R - but maybe a tad more bodyroll...........

Honestly - Chris called me and it sounded ridiculous even over the phone

I half thought that you were in Chris's car at first and it was his cone filter making all the racket

Yes indeed. The slight exhaust blow turned out to be half the lower skin of the mid box missing. Don't get me wrong, John...I'm fair from complaining...the 'features' have made for a much more entertaining weekend! The looks (and thumbs-up!) that exhaust has got us have been worth every penny. I think all three of us have genuinely had a excellent time on our little adventure...and the car made it back to Lincoln under its own steam (and without letting any steam out!) with only two break-downs on the way
Now...onto Rupert talking rubbish...
The V70R gearshift is more precise, and it really doesn't lack for low-down grunt...not for a modern car. It'll happily pull itself along at 20mph in 5th! It has marginally less pull below 2000rpm than the NA S70 it replaced, but you've got to be seriously inept to stall it (aaaaa-hem!). Admittedly, the torque availability below 2000rpm relative to the torque availability above 2500rpm is fairly spectacular, while the B14 is pretty crazy in its ability to deliver near linear torque from tickover to redline! The clutch on the V70R is a touch heavy, but that's marginal over the 345.
The V70R is significantly "better" in almost every way....but do I grin like an idiot every time I drive it? No...and that's what makes the 300s awesome...and what I've missed so much!
cheers
James

Wow, check out the wheel arch gaps

Put some standard steelies on, and you won't notice it so much.
Great buy, mate! How many Mk1s is that now (or to put it another way, how many 300's in all?)

It was hilarious when it was parked next to Fake and Magnum's! Yet only one of us had lowering springs...

I actually can't believe how high it looks... I think it desperately needs lowering (hides)
