Little update,
Hit a milestone the other day
80K
Refurbed 2 of the wheels

This was when we were swapping the tyres, difference in width between the cups and the williams steels, fuck knows why they say saxo on them haha

was tempted to leave em like this

Good enough for me
And fitted me new light, cheers to Foggy for sending it

Rear bumper's back on now after a crappy re-paint.
Atchi's welding my coilovers properly and I've left him with drawings for the plates to make my spherical bearing topmounts. Also been looking into new bottom arms and radius arms using rosejoints, seems a simpler way to get them sat at the right angle with minimum fabrication. I'm sure I said before that one of my leaf springs is bent just behind the axle, the passengerside one to be exact, I suspect it's due to the fact there is no anti-tramp bar at this side. I'm gong to make matching ones for each side and fab up new mounts, thanks to Ride_on
http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... 1&p=155177 For the inspiration. I have a good pair of GLT leafs to go on as well and will probably invest in Dai's rear coilover dampers to stiffen the back up when (if) i get any money. Adam's going to send me RX7 Caliper conversion brackets and I'll work out what size springs are needed this week for the coilovers. Hoping to have it all on the car and sorted for mid june. MOT is round then too. Rear Chassis x-member is rather rotted at the ends which I've seen is common, apart from that I can't see anything too sinister coming up before it get's tested. Gearlinkages STILL need fixing, Just can't find the effort to drop the gearbox down and sort it.
Thanks for lookig,
Matt

Fake needed both ends of that cross member doing, quite a few other cars I've seen have too. It's not *too* hard, but access to paint the rear side of it is a pain.

Yeah mine was fubared. The bit close the wheel well doesn't get it too bad, the end T-pieces you can get repair sections from Klockerholm, but easy to fab anyway. I cut the top out all the way across, was mostly rust anyway. Repaired then Zinga'd the inside then welded up the top.

I'll see if I can grap a photo of mine but both ends look like it's just the bottom at the T-joint, sort of the edge closest to the wheel. I'm gonna have to do that next week or leave it for the MOT man to find. It is solid mind, I couldn't get a screwdriver through it

Hi,
Matt came and payed for the LSD!
I hope he will be very happy with what he has. Also, he picked up re-welded coil overs. I did grind out what pigeon did as a job lot and welded better.
I offered him 200Bhp 1300cc turbo engine but he is staying with 2000cc engine for now

.
Offere is there as long as you are willing to be a lab rat again... well it is well proven.
Did I tell you my mate did 42mpg in his 370bhp 1300cc? He was using just 5% throttle opening to do 70mph

!
Cheers
Atchi

Well done Atchi, looks like you saved the day. Please tell me more about the 1300 turbo engine!! What engine is it? And how much are you looking for? Sounds very interesting.

It is Swift Gti engine my mate has in his car.
I will be building similar spec but nit as mad as his. I will be happy with 250 bhp out of it. He wants to go all the way to 400Bhp with 200 shot of NOS.
I think it might cost me £1k to build 190BHP engine but if you are driving off boost, it will do 42mpg in long run. Oh, this will have std internal with 10:1 CR. So no waiting for turbo to kick in!
I have a bell housing which will fit to 360 gearbox setup so it will be wasy mod as all you need is std Gti engine with turbo chipped Suzuki Swift ECU.
Cheers
Atchi

Tempted to just buy a Swift and pop that straight in now.
Sounds like mega-fun.

Can you tell us more about the LSD...is it a slipper or a locker, and how much is it?
The Swift engine is a nice piece of kit
cheers

OK update time,
Coilovers are welded - big thanks to Atchi, He's done a great job!
Springs are bought 200lb/in 6" springs and 4" helpers
Topmounts are getting lasercut and welded by Atchi
Adam might have posted the brake brackets by now
MOT day after tomorrow, So tomorrow I need to drop the gearbox down and fix the gearlinkages, which I'm still unsure how to do. I don't have a good standard set, the bar broke off both. I'm going to put the remaining bit that holds the lever back on the torque tube on the OEM rubber mounts, with the linkage it's self on the right way round this time

so that should let me have 5th gear back. Then I just need to find a way of restraining the mount to stop it simly tilting when moving the lever forwards and backwards. Gearbox oil is low, I hope, or i have bigger problems. I pulled the torque tube rubber bumg out today and found this:
That folks, is oil
Hopefully off when the old box was on there. There's none in the bellhousing, it feels completely dry
I've done a few jobs on the car, welded up the n/s bit of chassis at the back, using metal from the corsa's inner wing. not attempted the o/s as the fuel filler runs next to it and i have a strange phobia of mixing petrol and heat/sparks. fixed the boot seal that as coming apart at the join, stuck another section in off the corsa. my decent stereo packed in so got a cheap one. snapped the middle of an RCA plug off in me amp so only 1 5x7 works
stuck a tow strap on the back lol, and the loud exhaust back on
the rear seat wouldn't click back into place at one side, took me a while to realise the catch was missing a screw lol fixed that.
so things which worry me about the MOT on thursday:
-smashed front no. plate
-reverse lights dont stay on when you stop pushing the lever, might fix that tomorrow
-something loose in front suspension
-rust on chassis rail
-rust on sills
I'll be driving down to BKV next week, providing i have an MOT, 200 miles ish then the same back. will be a test like.

Day before the MOT i got a new number plate for the front, got the front fogs working, reverse lights working and get the rear seat to stay clipped in.
Went for the test and it failed on a bottom arm bush, I'd forgotten I'd changed the arms as a temporary measure and my poly'd ones were still in the shed, changed them and it passed

advisories on both seatbelts in the front being frayed.
Got my springs for the coilovers, 6" 250lb/in springs and 4" helpers.
Still got to do gearlinkages before heading down to the BKV, tuesday I think then wednesday is free just in case
I'll stick some pics up later
