Vibration Damper - Replacement parts or alternative

I've been restoring a 360 GLT and trying to sort out why there was so much play in the steering wheel....
I initial thought it was track rods,( which are also knackered). Upon further inspection, it appears that the vibration damper has broken or perished or both...It means that i can turn the steering wheel by rocking the steering shaft easily. This would explain why the car won't handle very well.
Has anyone had this happen to them and if so how did you cure this?. Can replacements be purchased from Volvo...does anyone know the part number ...any help greatly appreciated
