Electrical trouble

Firtst off all, my english sucks, specially when writing car-related.
I drive a 340 GL 1987, and i have had a lot of electrical trouble latley.
The entire dashboard (is it called that? anyway the board with RPM, the gas-level and speed) is from a 240 - the previous owner put it in to get the RPM-measurer.
Anyway, i had my trouble with it before, but nothing a higher fuse could not fix. But this time it's only the speed-measurer that is broken. Everything seems to work good, but the speed is stuck on 0, and the kilometers counter does not either move, and this shit happend all suddenly tonight when i was driving around.
Is it possible it's just a loose wire, or bad grounding? Does anyone got a clue how i search for the error !??
Thanks for any kind of advice. Cheers from a fresh car-owner!

Hi if you reach up behind the console where the speedo is, there is a cable that runs it. It has either come disconnected or broken. I hope that helped?

Also speedometer cable can be loose from left front wheel end. It is just pushed into place, no anything to secure it so it can come loose sometimes..

You can get an improved version of the speedo cable from a Volvo dealer. My new cable came with a socket which is attatched with a nut on to the grease cup of the bearing. So it won't come off by itself untill the cable itself breaks down. Much better than the old attatching system with the lock pin.

Thanks! I will see more into it in the morning when the sun is on my side! I think the wire from the speedo to the left front wheel might be broken, but i find it kind of strange that it just breakes while i'm driving around...

Okey.. while looking at the problem i feel kind of stupid that my headline is "electrical truoble" as the speedo goes all mechanical
Anyhow, i now found out it's the wire (ehm.. i dont know what it's called, the metal-wire inside the cable who goes to the left front wheel) who is broken. I turned the wheel all to the left and tok the cable out, then i pulled the wire out of the cable and it was just ca. 30cm. Tomorrow i'm gonna go to the junkyard (where all the dumped cars are) and get a new wire.
What i'm wondering now is; how do i get the rest of the wire out of the cable, as i only get the 30cm broken part out of the end pointing to the front wheel, and i have difficulties reaching behind the speedo, and find the other end ? Should i put the new wire in from the speedo (if i reach) or from the front wheel ?
And: Should i find another 340 to take the new wire from, or is it different from car to car? If i find a wire who is longer than mine, will it hurt to cut some off?
Cheers!

Better get new cable, not only wire inside, imo.
If you remove panel below dashboard you can access to speedometer cable from below quite easily, it is attached into center of speedometer, also you need to turn knut 1/2 turn and then pull away.

hehe
Fixed the problem today, went to the junkyard, fond another 340 GL, took the wire and showed it up my car. Now it works like a charm! Nice to see how fast i'm going again
