my f7p conversion list, advice needed.

hey all,
after purchasing my second 300 i have to admit ive caught the bug with these cool little cars.
im looking for some advice on swapping the engine in my f reg 340 1.4 dl with something a bit more interesteing. in this case an ebay purchased 1.8 f7p.
i know the topic has been covered manytimes before, but i need some advice.
i have done a search on the forum and tried to research as much as possible, im just in need of some advice to check i have got everything right before taking my car off the road to commence the conversion.
so i understand that to put the engine in my car i need some parts from the 1.7 340,
as far as i can tell these are:
bell housing
engine mounts
sump
clutch cable
clutch
rad hoses, is there an aftermarket option available for these?
alternator mounts
1.7 rad
what do i need from the f7p?
obviously the engine and loom? ecu.
flywheel
exhaust downpipe? although this isnt such an issue as i plan to have a system fabricated.
i know you need to flip the intake on the inlet but this wouldnt be an issue as i plan to run the engine on bike carbs, with a custom manifold, what would i need to change fueling wise? or would the 1.4 fuel pump be sufice?
also where would this leave me with the existing loom/injection system.
and finaly on the setup, can i run the exisiting ignition system? if not what ecu/dizzy/setup do i require.
any help would be greatly appreiciated,

1.7 rad hoses will be fine.
Might need a universal throttle cable and a bespoke loom.
Try PMing 340glt.
I think he might be able to provide some of what you need.
Uprated fuel pump ive heard is neccisary.
Im no genius, but I hope this helps.

I've got one in m,ine but still don't remember everything you need
As far as i'm aware if your going the carb route you won't need much if any of the loom/ECU but i'm probably wrong.
Besides the noise why do you want to change to carbs, which give poor cold starting and generally need constant adjusting to keep them in perfect tune, when you can have trouble free(ish) turnkey motoring with the injection system. Just my 2p worth, mine makes enough noise as it is, with carbs it would be borderline annoyingly loud i would imagine.

the reason for carbs is pretty much as you said, the need for less of the wiring loom for the injection system.
a friend owns a breakers so i can get the carbs for next to nothing.
willl the carbs be needing an uprated pump or would theywork fine on the 1.4 one?
thanks for the replys people.

Those loss of low end torque that the shorter inlet carb manifolds have would drive me insane. The F7x has one of the nicest inlets of it's era!
Injection is another 3/4 hours hassle on fitment then it'll repay you constantly

im sure that if bike carbs are well set up then they should show a vast improvement.
i intend to be running them with a custom airbox, probably aluminum, with a filter housed close to the front of the car, but im getting ahead of myself now.
what i need to realy know is will the fuel pump from the existing 1.4 tank work?
or will i have to purcahse something like a red top pump and a regulaor? or a higher capacity volvo pump?
thanks

there is no fuel pump in the 1.4's tank. 1.4 has a mechanical camshaft operated fuel pump on the left side of the engine.

ok in that case, im guessing im going to need to rig up a facet fuel pump and a regulator to control the flow.
quick question, what should the fuel pressure be for the bike carbs? (i could google it but i know how usefull you all love feeling)
sorry to sound dim, im sure if i had looked at the block i would have seen said pump.

on another forum i have just been reading up that the 16v reanult engine conversion, and they rekon that the engine will not fit onto my existing 1.4 subframe? and that a swap to a 1.7 subframe is needed?
is this true? is this another thing i need to now budget for in my build?
thanks

Lies.
Fits, on 1.7 mounts.
Gospel.

ahhh i see, much appreiciated. ill be investing in some uprated 1.7 mounts then
you will all have to bear with my slow learning on this as its only the second volvo ive owned and im still exploring the differences between the models

as im looking a t a few adjustable regulators at the moment and i want to make sure i get the one with the correct range of adjustment.

regarding the subframe, the engine will fit on the 1.4 frame however the 1.7's frame has extra mounting points spreading the load and is ideal for the conversion as opposed to necessary.
You'll have problems finding "Uprated" engine mounts for the time being as theres pretty much only Dai who has mocked something up for this but atm he's having trouble with them.
Regarding regulator iirc carbs only need a low pressure regulator, i'd imagine setting to around 2-3PSi? I'm sure somebody will be able to provide you with something more accurate. Check out the specs of what they ran when fitted on the bike and I don't think you would be a million miles away. To get the most out of the carbs too you'll need to play around with the jets i'd imagine.

ok so the f7p conversion is now moving along.
and after a journey down to south london last night i came home with this:
many thanks to j340glt for the purchase.
now what i need to know, its not to clear from the pictures but this is a megane engine with coil packs.
i intend to strip the head off and do away with the coil packs, and install a 1.8 clio head with the megane 33mm valves, and clio distributor.
then sort the fueling with the aid of bike carbs.
will the renix ignition currently on my car run this, or will i need some sort of stand alone jobbie?
also am i right in thinking that the engine once built will be as near to as a 2.0 williams?
among the parts purchased were two bare struts, soon to get the coilover treatment and some (yet undicided) larger calipers.
thanks in advance guys.
