Early 1.4 downpipe removal procedure...

As far as I can tell, to remove the downpipe from an early 1.4 (with the manifold which exits forwards, not backwards), you have to jack the car up until it's this high off the ground (front tyres ~16" off the ground; front edge of bonnet at roughly shoulder height, and I'm 6'1"...!)...
Try doing that with a normal DIY trolley jack
cheers
James

hmm, after removing the exhaust behind the downpipe i fished it out upwards through the engine bay on my 343 with all wheels on the ground last week.

Yes, it'd be a lot easier if it weren't for some irritating "relocated features" on my car compared with yours
It's just a very awkward shape, with a 'hook' on the end (to deal with the manifold exiting forwards) which wants to get caught on everything in the way. So yeah...it's very long and very 'wide' at the end.
cheers

I have a vague recollection that if you get it in just the right position it will come out the top but its very hard to find. The last time I did this was about 20 years ago, maybe I loosened the master cycl or something.

A front spoiler really does make a huge difference to a mk1...they just don't look right without one!
cheers
