Why did you get a 300? Was there a certain one that inspired you to get one, there was for me.
and foggys
I thought it might be cool why others got one.

Saw them about as a kid, thought they and 240s were really cool. There was a mk2 red 1.4 owned by one of my friend's family for about 25 years that I always thought was amazing. Apparently it was a true sh*tbox that barely did 70

Carried on going until it literally rusted in half though. Must have had crazy miles on it.
Mid to late teenage years I gave up on the idea as I thought I'd never get insured on one. Drove a KA for 2 years before getting a Fiesta Diesel (deathtrap). Then while on a boring work placement I remembered those old things and chanced upon googling volvo 340... This place came up.
There was a grey saloon on ebay at the time, I had a spare £300 so I got it. Never been happier

I didn't know anything about cars when I got mine, (not even what 1.4 stands for) but there was a car for sale for 500, from 1983 (so no tax in Holland). I thought it was cheap so I got it. Later, while gaining knowledge about cars, I found out it was in a not-so-well condition, but it's my first car and I love it now so I'm doing my best to get it road-worthy
How I got it:

got fed up of my pug 206 always breaking down so wanted something reliable. always had a thing for volvos as my dad had a few 700's while i was growing up. Cheap RWD and retro appeal made me look at the volvo 300, cheap insurance (well cheaper than the astra mk4 i was going to buy), wanted something i could learn how to do stuff on. Then seen this photo:

of nikdev's car and instantly knew i wanted one
week or two later i was the proud owner of my GLT

Honestly, it was through drifting sites. The retro, cheap and RWD pulled me. But once I bought one, I fell in love with it and regret selling itI will be buying one around September or October and I'll be looking for a nice one. I like the feel of them. Cant explain what it is but I loved driving it, especially the 1400.
Great times

Creation!!! When did I ever make one? I've missed it and I'm always on the look out for one. Unless the rally car breaks then I'm skint.

I remember your green one, one of the 340s that inspired me. Thought you'd done that, ah well.

Its nice to hear people reasons, I was also attracted by the very cheap insruance, my 360 was cheaper than my corsa, I got a refund when I changed the car!!

Umm, good Q actually..
Well the first time it was an impulse buy. Can't even remember how but I ended up with a tatty drifted 360 2.0
It was a total pos, the mot fail was like 7 pages.. so that was sold off to a brave chap who was going to repair it.
Several years passed...
Then I needed a car that was:
a) rear wheel drive
b) a hatchback (for carrying stuff)
c) fairly econimical
d) fairly fast
Not many things fit the bill.. so here we are again

I bought my first one because it was cheap and relaible and local, and retro cool. Nobody else had one, so I was enthralled by the exclusivity points. Im a fan of everything 80s and TBH theres not much else you can buy with £200.
I hadnt really considered the RWD OMG KEWLness at the time, as it was a few years ago and the DrIftZ bandwaggon hadnt really bitten as deep as it has now.
I still cant drift. And Im still buying them. So im rubbish and the cars are good. Official.

Oh, Ive thought of a funnier answer!
"A girl told me Volvo 300s would give me a bigger tiddler or a better memory..................................... I cant recal which I got."
^Thats not a true story. Its a joke I saw on a video. In the 80s.
