360 rear end questions and front hubs too!!

Post by cam740 »

Hi all!!!

I've been pointed in your direction by the guys from turbobricks - mainly i think cause the yanks missed out on the 3** Volvos!!! :D

I'm looking at getting a 360glt (pref 86 or 87) and down the track would like to transplant a b230e into it but have a few questions about the rear end - specifically what can be done to it??

How hard is it to swap say a 240 rear end in?? I'd REALLY like rear discs on the car and if possible a 5 stud pattern but dont wanna get too far into it and find out it aint possible!!

Thanks in advance!

Transmission is at rear, so it is lot of work to change 200-serie rearaxle and change transmission location to front.

Of course it is, but transmission is at front straight after engine. I think that with 200-serie differential and rearaxle there is not enough space for gearbox at rear also that would require some serious modding to casing.

True...

I've seen a 360 with a 200 rear end... so it is possible, but easy?

Dayum - I'd forgotten about the transaxle!!

I've heard of 360s with rear discs - how hard is that to do?

My other question relates to the leaf springs - what has been done to make em handle and sit emlower???

thanks guys! :D

You can read all about it here:
lowering a 1986 340 1.4 (and all other 300's)

my head hurts after all of that!!!!

so in short its a fair bit of a bastard to make a 360 handle and sit lower without some nasty tradeoffs!!!

oh well - the joys of liking weird cars I guess!! :) :360:

It's not that hard... just a bit expensive...
Buy some lowering blocks for the rear, add an extra leafspring and some Spax shocks.
Buy lowering coilsprings and Spax shock absorbers for the front.
That should set you back about
Dai/classicswede is the one to turn to...

you can still put discs on the back and 4 pots on front without going to 5 stud ! i take it the 5 stud was so you could fit 240 rear discs?

the calipers are mini cooper 1971 2 pot alloy - not for road use ,as no mechanical handbrake !! if some xr3i rear callipers came my way at the right price they would go on nicely i think...
the discs ive never looked into, but i think they are either the standard 300 fronts or maybe the cooper discs.
