2nd Gear woes

Hi, bit stuck and losing the will to keep the bloody thing atm!
Bought a welded diff and gearbox to replace my Limited edition, gone bang diff

its now in but engine off all gears are fine, when moving 2nd is hard to get into, really have to pull it in but theres no crunching. Also 1st is easy to get in but hard to get out. My thoughts would be linkage aint alinged right but seeing as theres only one way it can go has made me stumped
And if anyone has any tips on getting the handbrake cable back into the quadraint (above the diff) would be really usefull as i cant get it together and its doing my nut in lol
Thanks

is it a 360? the linkages are prone to failure on 360's - i found that out lol

Sorry its a 340, 1.4 5 speed. I read that it could be something to do with the reverse collor not adjusted right but i cant notice much diffence when trying 2nd with the collor lifted up :/

Yes the reverse stop can affect it, but doesn't sounds like that is your problem. Could also be engine/gearbox mounts, clutch sticking.
Does the drive shaft stop when you put the clutch in? You can hear is easily with the door open, car stopped.

Ill check and post up. I know the engine mounts need replacing but this problem has only happended since i replaced the diff n gearbox. Wonderin if its something iv not done right or something in the gear box.

I can hear the dfference with clutch in/out on tickover. Forgot to mention its a welded diff if it makes any difference.

Got told the noise is probably the releasd bearing but cant see how it could cause this problem in only 1st and 2nd?

If the drive shaft is stopping with the clutch in, then its nothing to do with the release bearing. The suggestion is based on the clutch not disengaging properly, which happens sometimes, gear changes can be difficult then. Its hard to test for in other cars, but he 300 is easy.

Ok thanks, do you think the arm or bearing could be sticking or something? Just seems weird that its just 1st n 2nd. Id rather leave as is than do a box strip down lol!

Too hard to say, the gearboxes are pretty bomb proof, but perhaps if the gear change has been hammered by racing/drifting, non-disengaging clutch in the donor car, the selector forks might be bent inside.
You can get at the selectors from the side after taking the cover over, I don't know how they should look but you could compare with your original box which maybe ok. You could even swap the gearbox back in. Gaskets still available AFAIK, nothing tricky inside the 5 speed box-diff interface.
