Hugh's explanation is very useful but here is the answer to your question:

1 = plug to remove the oil
2 = plug to check the level and add oil

nope, to much experience in totally screwing up bolt nr. 2

(use a 6-hex spanner.. dont even try with a 12)

Indeed...
I've tried to replace my gear oil... Luckily I did not take out the old oil first...
The head of the nr. 2 bolt is now smaller then the shaft of the bolt. We've used increddible force on the bolt but it just would not budge...

So if you replace the oil FIRST chack how @#$^#@$ up bolt nr. 2 is... :evil:
