Ride Height

Post by classicswede »

I've been looking at a number of 300's and there seems to be a large difference in ride height. I wonder if this could explain Ali's front lowering problem. Is it possible there were different ride heights for different models.
It would be nice to get some figures for all the models.
Could everyone measure there car (std only please) and post the measurement along with model and year.
eg; 360 GLT 1986 390mm

Image

Please measure from the centre of the wheel to the bottom of the wheel arch.

Thanks

Dai

hmm sm14 mines sitting 45mm ( 1 1/2 inches in old money ) lower than your GLT Dai and 15mm lower than fuses GLT ,that either means i have a good suspension set up or its knackered ,or you guys are carrying a lot of weight in your boot making the front lighter

that wouldnt actually work (lots of weight in the boot). it'd raise the nose, but not the wheelarch..

sounds like yer suspension might be knackered mate..

If the nose goes up, my wheelarch goes up aswell... I think YOUR whole car is knackered if it does not...

no, if you put wieght in the boot, the only thing that could happen to the hight at the front is that it could lower. if you put a lot of weight in the back i would think that the back end compresses, but the front stays the same hight, which means that any car in front of the front wheels rises, but the arch does not. so ther sm39

The boot is behind the rear wheels... so the frond would definately rise as the car pivots around the rear wheels... sm39

Hi Dai HI ( sorry couldnt resist it ) right 1989 340 redline 1.7 345m
Sorry redline the car in the the picture is a 1989 340 m1.7 305mm !!!!
I'm still trying to get it lower!!

Image

I'm am hoping to try and establish what the ride height should be as I have measured std cars between 370mm and 410mm A very big difference. I would expect a 10-15 year old car to sag 25mm or so but not 40mm!!!

Thanks

bodejodel is right, as weight is put in the back behind the axle, load is taken off the front axle as the body attempts to pivot around the rear axle, so the load on the front sprigs is reduced and the front of the car lifts slightly. sm40

My 340 GLT (DL) 325mm, seems a bit low compaired to others?
Can you supply lowering springs for the front Dai? If so what options do you do?

My 305mm is really as low as you can go, because I have only 30-35mm travel in the suspension. I have had to cut the bump-stops in half and the car car is still sitting on them(they are made of a foam like material so compress very easely) It is possible to go lower by doing a bit of cutting. The best bet would be to lift the whole inner wing with strut top up, not an easy job.
