Radius arm bush cups

My bush cups for the front radius arms are fubared, anyone with access to a lathe willing to make them? Or any others also in need to justify getting a load made?

They can either be turned from a solid blank, or a press tool made on a lathe.

They are 2 sizes (inner and outer)
2mm thick blank washer approx 75mm and 52mm with 23mm hole
Inner hole slightly flanged to to sit in 30mm hole
Outer radius flanged

It's something I thought about recently, as a friend needed some done for a near identical part on a Triumph.

My lathe is nearly ready, but if you want them this side of 6 months away don't trust me to do it (as numerous people will tell you...)

The solution on the Triumph was cut from solid, press tooling does take some knowledge. If we have that here, awesome.

Maybe give mac a nudge. I'd assume that a boltaholic would be a washeraholic too?

I've got access to a lathe, so with the right dimensions and drawing could have them done by next week. I (probably) won't be able to take mine off my car to measure up, so if possible, could you give me a third angle projection or similar of the cups? Means I can get them accurate then, and won't end up wasting your time making the wrong ones!

I reckon I could do a drawing, might have to be in 'paint' tho ;)

Hard to measure the cup fitting size, maybe Dai could provide the max diameter on the polybush. Will pm him.

Cool. No worries about paint. Gimme a shout when you get something!

This is for the large one on the inside of the mounting. Comments please, and preferably dimension verification.

The small one is similar just with a different total diameter and height. I work on those next, but I don't have a good reference sample.

Its not to scale

Anything any further on this? Just put new radius arms and polys on my car when i did the rest of the suspension and found that the larger cup on the near side was pretty much dust and could be moved by hand. Needless to say i get some clunking noises when braking hard or turning left sharply or hitting a bump :/

Afraid i cant help make them with what tools I have but i can help with pennies if i could get some repair parts :)

Well I'm still working on, need to get it sorted. I think the large one might be best made by turning as its quite thick material (2mm), but the smaller one is about 1.3mm, so I'm thinking of making a press tool, although this would be my first attempt. Will post designs for comment.

What I need is measurement of new bushes and/or good cups. The large one I have 1 good example, but the smaller one is more approximate, as mine are both knackered.

I'm thinking 45.5mm for the internal basin for the bush.

Incidently skateboards seem to use them but they are too small.

I have the large one out for quote at the moment, any interest in additional quantities?

If that goes ok, I'll get them to make a tool for the smaller one and press it.

I'd definately be interested, both cups rotted off one side on mne a few weeks ago, luckily i'd just got another pair of mounts off liam, but would like to repair the others and have spares.

Are the cups actually separate peices or like a tube thats been pressed from both sides of the mount? i've not seen mounts in good enough nick to tell

The cups are separate pieces that are spot welded in 3 spots. The middle hole looks like its welded or pressed together (cup hole is smaller than the mounting metal with a 2mm overhang) but it might just be formed during the cup pressing out for centering purposes.

Anyway rather expensive prices from the first supplier I tried, would appreciate comments from mech guys;

Large Bush cup:
1 off £40
10 off £15 Ea
20 off £12 Ea

I've run the numbers and the unit and setup costs are not consistent, the setup seems to get higher with the bigger number, I suspect he has put a finger in the air rather than used maths.

The is just for 1 large cup (note there are 2 sizes) made by turning. I'm still thinking of doing a tool for the smaller one.

If this price is unattractive I would try and make a tool for both sizes and go for the longer term payback but slightly higher risk of bad tool design. I might be able to consult some mech engineers.

I'd say that's the expensive end of about right mate :( If they are being turned rather than pressed the chap will grind up an inside and outside tool and just offer it up to the part, a friend had some done for the rear axle of a dolomite recently (they look identical to 300 ones) but it was via a friend of a friend arrangement.

Long term, the sexiest way to do it would be get a press tool made up, but again if that's not being done by someone for the love it's going to be much more expensive and it needs a press obviously.
