1990 340 1.4 (MOT failure)

My poor old Volvo has just failed her MOT. She needs a bit of welding and also some attention to one of the brake lights. As I've been offered a nice replacement, I've decided against having the work done. She is a good and reliable little car with newish exhaust, tyres, starter, rota arm and distributor cap. She is getting a bit rusty, but I'm sure that if the MOT work were carried out she would provide another year of trouble-free motoring.

I've put the car on e-bay with a starting bid of £25 (to cover sellers fees). You can see her at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... eName=WDVW

There are also some pictures at http://helianthus.me.uk/volvo/volvo.html

The car is located in West Bridgford, near Nottingham. I'm still driving her at the moment as the MOT doesn't run out until Sunday 24 July. Road tax expires at the end of August.

I've also posted this on the Volvo Owners Club forum.

Yep, Sausage has all of those extra wipers. Even the headlamp wipers work (which is more than can be said of those on her predecessor). One bid on e-bay so far. What a bargain - £5 per wiper!?!

The rear wiper works, but for some reason it doesn't always return to the correct position when switched off. It will either stop where it is, or else inch back in a jerky manner. It's fine whilst turned on, so it has never bothered me - I just wait until it gets to the end of it's travel before I switch it off.

Hmm, yes. The registration is G73 SAU, so for some reason we started calling her 'SAUsage'. Oh dear, oh dear...

Theres a story behind that..... I didn't want to give my car a name when I got it.... not really sure why, and I just kept calling it Car, then remembered back to Knight Rider. But true... it is an 'interesting' choice ;)

On the rear wiper part of things, I have found that at a certain point they do indeed stop where they are and not return, I think it is on the up stroke, so you need to wait until it is returning or back to it's starting point before switching off. It was on my origninal car anyway. It worked fine, and hadn't become slow and tired, as some do. Good luck with selling the car, if I had the room it may have become a donor due to all of the nice red panels........ but sadly I can't even think about bringing another home yet. Yet.............. !

Thanks, Pete. I must say, though, the panels are maybe not as nice as they look in the pictures. Not that I've done anything with Photoshop, but my wife has always said that red hides the rust...

Still, the bid is up to £26 now. Once my e-bay fees have been deducted, that means I will have made a juicy £5. Wow!

sm58 OK, some some guy 'bought' Sausage on e-bay, but hasn't turned up to collect her yet. He's not responding to my e-mails, and the road tax runs out at the end of August.

Sooo, I've given him until the end of this week to respond to me. If he doesn't, there's a nice (well, nice-ish) red 340 1.4 for someone to take away, gratis. New starter, tyres and exhaust in the last year. Just needs some welding and some attention to a brake light for an MOT certificate, or could be a donor.

I'll keep you posted.

EDIT: Oh, the nice man has just telephoned. It looks like he's coming after all. That'll please Sausage, she was starting to feel quite unloved.
