Changing 1.7 dizzy cap

Post by classicswede »

Just a quuick tip I remembered about changing the dizzy cap on 1.7 340 engines. Volvo were very kind and secured the dizzy cap on with flat head screws wich are very difficult to undo. So once you have undone them the once make it easy for next time and thow them in the bin, you can replace them with standard M6 bolts then alowing you to use a 10mm spanner. A few pence well spent.

Yep, good tip, did that on our 1.7. In fact, thats what the dealers now supply. Stupid idea screws there. Last time I had to use a pair of grips to get them off, I broke the cap of course, but I had a new one ready to go in :)

I f*%king hate that idea, vauxhall did it as well on carltons and put torx bolts in the cap.

If you own a carlton that needs a cap, scrap it. It isnt worth the grief, swearing and cost of hiring an engine crane to lift the lump out so you can undo that last bolt.
Sorry rant over :D
