It clearly doesn't do anything, Renault just put them in as they were making too much profit

Actual answer, it depends. It could be the idle control valve, but without a picture it's hard to tell. If so, yes you do if running injection, no you don't if on carbs.

Or it could be something else.

Ill try get a picture tomorrow

but its not the idle control valve, its much smaller, has a plug on one end and the other has 2 vacuum connections at a 90 degree angle to each other,

but i have no idea were its supposed to be plumbed into or what it does

That is tiny, mine doesn't have one. I'd be interested in what it actually did do, it looks very much like a turbo actuation valve.

Did the loom definitely come from the F7P, or could it have been collected from another Clio/Megane/something else? It's also worth noting I've only really dealt with F7R's, so may be that P's have something else connected somewhere.

Found out what it is today

ECU pin no.5, controls vacuum flow to the charcoal canister/ evap valve, which is often just removed for conversions

Just to add, its usually plumed into to the vacuum nipple on the end of the inlet (usually blanked off for 340's)
