Hello all, I am having a random thought. The alternator on my B14 is a 50Amp output, I was wondering if there was a higher output alternator I could put on and what I can put on. I am just thinking it might be better with a higher output alternator on her.

Have you made any modifications? Otherwise the standard alternator should be fine.

No mods at all, other than a more up to date stereo and maybe a handsfree kit etc, just want to make sure the alternator will still charge the battery under worse condition.

I would only worry if the headlamps go dim. Is the alternator new or original? Old ones can suffer from worn brushes and failing diodes, but you knew that. I soldered new brushes into an old diode unit and the car died on the M3, bad me. If you have one of those mega stereo systems you could get one of those giant capacitors which stop you headlights dimming to the rhythm of the beat, but the health and safety person in me says be careful with large currents and capacitors.

i have erm 4 alternators.... 1 of which is brand new, 1 that was sacrificed to see how it worked (although will go back together again soon).
i will be putting better speakers in to the car, but being a music lover, i cant stand tinny music that sound awful.
