Switched power for stereo

Post by d3k4y0 »

After installing amp and sub in the boot, my battery has died on me...
the problem is that the amp isn't turning off when the stereo is turned off, which is almost certainly connected to the fact that the stereo doesn't go off when the ignition is turned off. THAT doesn't happen because the old stereo had no leed from the ignition to make that happen, so my stereo is just running from a 12v perm. feed, meaning that the remote lead is always indicating the stereo as on.

where does the stereo switching lead come from when one is present?

There are loads of places you could take an igniton live from eg cigar lighter. All you need do is probe the wires with a mutimeter of test lamp and make sure you have power when the ignition is on and off when the igition is off.

Whopps I think your right. I wired the radio ages ago but used the original loom. My gas igniton live is from the fuse box. Best bet is to probe.

Or... if you are around that area any way, one of the two wires in the main stereo plug (i.e. green or black I think...) is switched, the other is perm. Easy to get to....
