My Volvo 340.

Hi folks. Im having a rough time with it but thought I'd best do an introduction. Hopefully update it as time goes on.
My car is a 1989 2 previous owners cvt in DL trim. 1 owner from 89 till may and from may till I bought it. It had 15k on the clock but around ten years ago it had 55k so I'd hazard a guess at a clock change. I bought it off my friend and drove it back to Derbyshire. Drove back lovely and all was well.
The issues I've rectified with Help from Ben and in turn Mac so far are-
Clutch adjustment
Belt tension
The rest I'm slowly working through. It has a idle issue when warm which I have now found out this evening that the three bolts which hold the air box to carb,2wonttighten. Looks like the old boys mechanic may have been heavy handed. Going to look into tapping or helicoils. It will also benefit from new leads and a service when I can afford to do it.
A few issues I have at the minute are the exhaust, which broken last night at the center silencer which has been replaced with a straight pipe for the time being. Sadly the front pipe is now blowing and I can't economically repair that! I've noticed a bit of oil leaking aroud the primary differential too which I'm hoping is a seal. Also need to get an undergraduate to cover it all. There is a rubbing noise when pulling away which sounds like the belts and it did it before getting adjusted too. I've replaced the small fuel return hose from pump to plastic housing as it was weeping and 1 vac hose. Had issues with emv which looks to have been fixed thanks to Ben.
Thanks for listening to ravings of a madman!

A bit of an update. Bought a new centre pipe as the economical repair didn't work. Ended up sleeving the front pipe to make it all work. No longer likes idling but that issue came suddenly and I believe it's down to the leads as it also loses power under load and the plug lead gave me an almighty jolt the other night! Can't see no arcing at night but can hear a ticking noise.

Glad the exhaust fix worked.
Replaced the leads, sounds like one is playing up.

Somewhat embarasingly I am having a similar lead issue but the AA man said he would put his money on the new fuel pump I fitted. So leads or pump? Time will tell.

Right well situation isn't great at the minute. New leads fitted. Plugs new too. At idle it is running really lumpy until it's higher up the revs but even if you go to kickdown it stumbles. Worse again if you go full throttle, lift off and back to full throttle. It then starts pulling back a lot on power to the point it actually wont gain speed. Every set of lights and junction too it stalls. I've tried raising tickover but no joy. Also tried mixture one way then the other and even pulling g choke out a bit but still hunts and cuts out.

Regards fuel pump I'm sure it's fine as it has a good flow through the inline filter. And the filter is filling up OK too.

I reckon it'll be the gaskets beneath the carburetor. If they leak air you will have lots of problems. My theory is that MOT people make holes in them to get your car through the emissions test by stealth, but the result is a car that is completely hopeless to drive. Just a theory based on some hints of it happening to me.

I have found out I'm missing a restriction thanks to Ben. An idea to try tomorrow.
