You sure you want an M16?? The one I needed for my B14.4E was an M14x1.5 which is one of the M14 fine threads (luckily one of the most common for senders )

EDIT: Also... if you are thinking of putting it in the same place as the old oil pressure switch, you'll almost certainly need a extension made up, the engine lifting brackets get in the way nicely!

You are most probably right with the thread being M14. The Mech engineers at work could not identify it with their tables and could only say it was 16 tpi and probably a 9/16th inch BSF. Thanks for pointing that out.

It is indeed a M14 thread, still gotta get round to fitting mine, the gauge lights up but as not connected to a sender constantly read 1 bar!!! lol

Hey Steve - long time no chatter!

I have a gauge and sender, but you'll need a 1/8" NPT > M14x1.5 (IIRC) tapping from Low Tension...about £50 delivered. It's the dual terminal type, so no need for an adaptor. £25 to you guvnor. The senders alone are £40 new.

Hi James, thanks for the offer but I am looking for a sender that will screw into the block without an adapter. I have a normal oil pressure gauge at present without a warning light but thought if i fit an electric sender I can make an electronic circuit that triggers an LED. There is even an IC that will trigger severeral LED,s at different pressures so providing a gauge and warning light combined.

What sort of thing is it you want Steve, there is a warning light on your dash that comes on at less than 0.5 bar..... The output of the senders is easy to play with, I can tell you the specs if you want. Is your current oil pressure gauge mechanical then? You won't get an electrical sender in to the engine without an adapter of some kind, there physically isn't room, unless you fancy having something hanging down from your sump It needs at least an extension:

The angle those are taken make it seem much more roomy that in is, those are short as can be measurements. (I have both pressure and temp senders in that t-piece, which you wont, but you get the idea)

I'd be interested to see what Volvo did for the B14, as Chris' pics certainly seem to show that there's no way the sender could 'fit right in'. I know there were two adaptor supplied with the B200/230 kit, to bend the sender down out of the way on turbo cars.

Almost all senders have an output on-board for your 'idiot light' as well as the gauge contact (see Chris's pic), so no need to go to town with clever circuits...unless you really want to, of course.

You can get a sender which goes straight into the M14x1.5 (I think) thread on the block on the B200/230, but the 1/8" NPT one is cheaper, and what Volvo actually supplied (with an adaptor) in their kits, in case you had a B17/19/21/23, which have the imperial thread.

There's no shame in an adaptor like Chris'....BUT....you do have to be careful with all that weight hanging off the thread in the block. The safer solution is to run a flexible rubber (maybe braided, if you're feeling swish!) oil line out to an accessible remote location - even if that's only 3-4" away from the block. That puts far less stress on the thread.
