Took the car in the garage today coz back brakes and handbrake didnt feel right , after stripping the drums down found the rear shoes had loads of meet left on them and the drums were fine ( no scoring or grooves ) sfter a little look round we found that the drivers side handbrake adjuster was seized so the brakes were not adjusting automatically as they should , 45 minutes later the adjuster was no longer seized all the brake mechanism was cleaned and adjusted , I have now got great brakes and a handbrake that works,, Might be worth a few squirts of wd40 on the adjusters now and again to stop the same happening to your cars

I've never had the adjusters seize but the lever pivot has seized twice. The rear brakes were non existent when I got the car so ordered new cylinders before even looking. On inspection I found the pivot was solid so freed it all up reasembled and greased the moving parts. A few months later the same problem reocoured so I repeated the job and fitted good second hand drums and new shoes. After a few more months same thing happened. I do not under stand why it happens I have used a thick grease so it wont run off. I do not mind having to keep doing it but it's anoying. All I can blame it on is the salt on our roads.
