Seat warmers

Post by 340GLT »

Well its come to that time of year when cars are icing up etc and this morning i decided to use my seat warmer. Only to notice it doesnt work!!! Oh but typically the passenger one did!!!
Anyway the main reason for posting this is that i went to a scrappy to get another only to find when i cut the seat open it was different to the one in mine!!
Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this?
The first one i had in the car is a yellow coloured plastic thing, whereas the one i got today is like the 850 ones and is totally material and much nicer?
Anyone else mucked about with seats much?
Cheers Adam

Mine are yellow too. They're a bid folded, so they don't sit that nice, but they work.

When start up in the morning i have the blower on, the rear window heating+left mirror heating and the heated seats. When i then also turn on the lights and stereo my car gets real problems with the idle speed. Does anyone know why that happens?

Because the engine doesn't produce very much KiloWatts when running that slow. All accesories that make warmth need a lot of amps.

I had an odd GLT seat in my original GLT Adam. The drivers seat had no heated seat, no lumbar support knob, or even a hole in the fabric, but was in the proper GLT pinstripe material! Odd. Seems as though my current drivers seat heating element doesn't work.........doh! It's not something I've ever worried too much about, though it would be nice to have! How hard is it to swap the heated seat parts then, as you mention cutting, or is that just the quick access route to a donor!?

thats one luxury that still works!!! nice warm heated seats oh yeh

my lum bar support knobs fell off lol electric windows packed in and the central locking packed in same time!

I would have thought its a complicated thing to do. Dnt they build the seat around a seat warmer? meaning you would have to rip so much shit off to get to it and your seats will be FUBAR

Well i could quite easily tell you how to do the swap pete, as i re upolstured my car in the redline trim and copied the original way volvo did it!! the cutting is only the doner way to get a heating element!! I bought a spare element today and the F£$%^&G things working again now!!
Apperently the week point is the stat in them as he remembers changing these under warranty!!!!

I measured the wires ones, and there is a 12volt current coming from them. However, the heating never seems to work. They only work when the temp is under 14 up to 31 degrees. So when you sit for 30 sec, you warmed the seat to 14 degrees yourself. Maybe it can be useful to get rid if the temp sensor in the seat?

hi everyone, shamefully getting a problem with both seats i think, switch the heated seats on but no effect really, could it be something to do with a low battery since i do have a low battery problem?

cheers

Not when the engine is running. The dynamo then makes enough power to supply all of those ''Yeez, your car is more comfortable then my new daihatsu!'' options...

I love that feeling, an ancient Volvo is more luxurious than a lot of newer cars and how shocked people are when they notice these things!

Adam, cheers, I might take you up on that info, depends on if I can a) find a working seat in one of my other cars! But I'd swap it into my original seat, as it's nice and clean and hardly worn. Or b) buy a new element, was yours from Volvo? And how much did they rob you of, I mean charge you for it!? It's not high on my priorities list, but it would be nice!

You should ask in Paris how to warm your seats... They sure know how to warm them up.
