Not tried Mintex, but they have a good rep - they sponsor a Rally too!

I had lots of pedal travel - it was the master cylinder. The seals in it perish which means you have to pump the brake pedal to maintain pressure in the system. Not fun. Rear cylinders were dodgey too (a common problem apparently).

You're cooking because your brake fluid is heavily contaminated with air and possibly other crap which lowers the boiling point.

You need to find out where the leaks in your system are. Probably mc and/or rear cylinders. Fix it. Bleed out all the old brake fluid. Fill with fresh stuff

The pads are unlikely to really make a difference in this scenario...

I've only ever had fade due to old fluid.

cheers

Does it stink as it gets to boiling point or do you think its the friction material I can smell?

The brakes on my black car (with Mintex pads as fitted by Carl) certainly seem stronger than the ones on my saloon. But there are other variables such as old fluid to take into account, so I'm not sure whether it was just the pads making a difference!

Something didn't smell good, but hot brakes smell bad even if you don't boil the fluid.

cheers

First step with the brakes is to go new allround. I've fitted new rear cyl's shoes pads and disks coupled with new fluid and they are spot on.
I'm sure they will cook with very hard use but new on normal fast road conditions.
