Ive followed all the steps on the tbricks site but can't get the damn cover off, in the photos they show there is a lot more room at the front of the engine but i think my cover is hitting the viscous fan etc so can't wiggle it out, any ideas?
cheers

Cut it off!!
Dont try setting fire to it as you could damage other parts.

They can be a pain thats why I always let my brother do them. I will ask him later for any cheats.

Yep, need to remove the viscous fan, Either they corrode on solid or else they have Loctite on them, either way they're always a PIA to get off. You need to jam the pulley with a screwdriver whilst levering on the bolts. If its the first time you've done them its prolly a two person job.

Once you've got the fan off, use an old bolt and put it through the hole so you can jam the pulley again cos the waterpump bolts will be tight as well.

Once you've got the waterpump pulley off, the belt cover will come off easily. To get the bottom cover off you'll need to take the crank pulley off. This is how I do it, but its not the official Volvo way, so its at your own risk....I take off the Renix sender on the bellhousing and jam a big bolt in one of the holes in the flywheel. Then you can undo the crank bolt using a 24mm socket and long bar. The official Volvo way is to use a special tool to jam the pulley from the front. I can't remember whether you need to take out the radiator plastic shroud to get at the bolt or not.

Well the v-cam is in and the car actually runs to my amazement lol, I haven't got the fan back on yet so might well be considering swapping in the one from my 340, gave it a quick test but couldn't go far as the temp was rising quickly! Didn't really feel any difference but the only time I floored it was uphill and with a mate in the car. There was a bit of a weird wheezing noise when it was ticking over and then it sounded a bit weird at mid revs when testing it on the drive, sounded spot on after I took it out for a spin though :D

Have you re shimed or did it not need it? Most of the time I have found you do not need to do it. I do have some new cams. I need to check what they are.

Nah it didn't need it, I picked mine up from a local scrappy for £10 so should be nice if it makes a noticeable difference! A lot more time consuming getting it in than out of the original 740 block! Tbh the only hard bit about it was getting that damn fan out, the rest was just an easy swap!

Good work Ali! The difference is only 115-122bhp, and some of that might have been from the exhaust, but it *is* a hotter cam. You might not have the fuelling to make the most of it, but I would expect it to be a marginal improvement, and definitely worth a tenner.

You can remove the cover without taking the pulley off, but you'll damage it (albeit probably only a few scratches) in the process. To do it properly, it's a pulley-off job.

Motivation to replace the cover, cool as it looks to leave it off...
