360 Speakers

Hi
I bought a 360GLS recently. Lovely condition, 106,000k's - just under 1/4 k's of my last 245GL

and Volvo number three out of four cars owned

- I am a little upset that there's no rear speakers.
There are no wreckers here that have any left so is there any chance of someone posting a pic of what the mounts look like. I have the cover plates but it looks like nowhere to install the actual speakers. Or am I being dumb and I should look under those coverplates?
Cheers

The covers should be in two equal sized parts, with tiny screws holding the outside grill to an inner plastic plate, the plates then both screw onto the car panel and have a 4" dia round speaker screwed to them. I'll see if I can find a pic, or my spare set of covers to take one!

Welcome!
I'm guessing you're referring to the marked out sections in the rear pillars? If so, you cut those out, and mount away! The cutouts in the metalwork behind are for a 4x6" speaker, but the originals use an adaptor and a 4" speaker. I'm sure a UK person could post you a set of mounts, as they're fairly common over here.
cheers

Pull speakerwires yourself and put some good speakers in back..

Its really simple!! I have 6x9 speakers in back of my 340,sounds great!!

Sweet.
Thanks James.
I think i'll go that route rather than chopping the shelf up. It's the first one I've seen here or in Melbourne that is still in one piece!
Having said that, could get an plate made and put 6" Vifa's in there with some nice Vifa dome tweeters. mmmmmm
Those 6x9's do look a little better than 4"ers...
Cheers

Hi ,
if you do go the parcel shelf route , you could always do what I did
I glued and screwed three 6mm pieces of mdf together the top one is slightly wider than the lower two and slides in the channels where the parcel shelf used to fit , then I placed the original shelf over the top and glued it to the mdf (its also held by the speaker mounting bolts , the shelf still slides in and out (although i made it a much tighter fit to stop vibration and give more support ) It looks original but is much stronger and gives better acoustics

My GLS and GLT have 4x6 speakers stock, no adaptors for 4inch speakers foggy.

Honestly Al thats odd, i took a pair from a GLT near me to put in the blueline and they were only 4" ones.

The one's I've seen have all been 4", but it would make sense if they were 4" x 6" as Volvo made the cutouts that way! Maybe earlier or later speakers are different? There is also the possibility that some are the saloon shelf speakers, which would probably also be 4 x 6, so would fit the openings in the hatch.

AFAIK stock rear mounts for a saloon are 4". Maybe this is a case of 4x6 hole but 4" speaker again?
I've only ever seen 4" in the rear 4x6 hole, but as Pete says, this seems wierd. Are yours genuine Volvo speakers Al? That might well help settle the debate! That reminds me, I should wire up Nessy's rears...yup...more channels of audio in the 340 than my 360...
cheers

The ones in the GLS are after market, but the ones in my GLT look similar to the 4inch door speakers, they have grills too.

From the quick glance I saw in your GLT the standard mounts behind the grilles had been removed in order to fit the 4x6's
