Well, after lots of anticipation - taking 2 weeks for the shop to set the bugger up... I picked up my new guitar last week It's a Cort X11 Electric Guitar, most people respond with - who?! But they actually make bodies for Ibanez guitars too. After comparison with a few different options, this is what I got
Using a Line 6 Spider 2 30w Amp - not perfect but most 30w amplifiers come with 10" speakers, this came with a 12" speaker for the same price as others. And 30w my arse... this thing is damn loud!
Result - my new guitar sounds awesome, in both clean and distorted styles. Me = happy
Nice one Steve! I won't profess to know anything at all about guitars, but looks it looks mighty fine, and I'm sure it sounds just as good. Enjoy! I remember Foggy trying to convince you in a thread to not bother with the guitar, or get a cheaper one, in order to purchase something Volvo related, can't remember what though! I'm sure you've made the right descision this time.

Line 6 amp... does it have the CAT5 connection at the back I must admit, I'm slightly biased, not really keen on guitars, did nearly buy a lefty p-bass the other day though
House mate has a line 6 amp, and have ripped the network connection thing out of him for the last 4 years. Also has some random rack mount line 6 thingy, that also has a CAT5 port on it, no crossover cable seems to work though
thats a uber nice guitar mate!!, one of my mates has a cort guitar too, definitley sounds the buisness, never knew they made the ibanez bodies tho , i only play some bass but ive got a nice little tanglewood rebel 5k 5 string bass, quite fun to play some john myung stuff from time to time
its bad enough we have to put up with the owners of all the other volvo models (only joking guys we love you really ), next we will be having a V3M band to deal with !!!

and Roberto William (link)
and Billy Sheehan
and Al DeMiola
and John Myung
and Charlie Hunter
and I could carry on for weeks!
You know my opinion on solid state amplifiers and amp modellers but for what it is the spider does a good job, and for your purposes it's the right tool, but I would have kept my money in my pocket.
now go and practice!
oh and here, buy some drums and learn this! Cheeserific!

To be fair, I'd agree - and in all honesty I only bother using the reverb on it. If I was seriously keen I'd buy external effects - but then the price goes up even more For the money it does a damn good job!
