Brake Grinding

Post by SteveP »

After a bit of a spirited drive, the front drivers side brake disc grinds at speeds below 10mph.. any ideas what this could be? I've got some new pads to go on, but I wondered if I might need new discs as well?

Look to see if you've scored the disc on both sides. If you've got metal to metal action, then best change them discs out.

Do you really think it could be that? Seeing as it doesn't do it all the time and only once hot, and actual braking isn't affected.

Although it would add up - as it only makes this griding noise when the brakes aren't being applied.

Steve, I wouldn't say either way, but any kind of grinding is really unsafe and should be looked at, My experience was very scary and i was glad i looked at it asap, for the cost of new discs and pads is it really worth risking a crash?

Clearly, it's being looked at tomorrow - but as it only does it at speeds of under 10mph and after heavy braking I haven't looked at it yet. I'm generally light on brakes and driving in traffic incredibly slowly during rush hours! If it did it whilst applying brakes and ALL of the time then it would've been seen to ASAP.
