R.I.P Nev's Volvo..

Post by ducatievo »

Unfortunately due to a rear wheel lockup at 80mph (update - gearbox seized), Nev's lil' Volvo is no more :(

Spun across the road (luckily no cars coming), up the kerb and backwards into a tree. Thought it may be fixable but turns out the chassis is bent. Plan is to transfer everything to a new car. Will grab pics of the skidmarks too hopefully (looks really good, four darkies across the road)!

Shame, was a good lookin' Volvo!

Sounds almost like what I had - lack of oil in the diff - could this be possible? Shame about the car :( Real shame... Hope Nev is ok!

Just thought, tell Nev the offer is there to come and get my 340 if he wants it for free, the body is bloody mint on it so would make a good donor car for him if its any use? Its already stripped of all soundproofing and painted inside so saves him the bother lol,
cheers

What a shame that, that was a legend of a car, the inspiration to many. It looks like it stood up well. I hope Nev is ok. Well, at least it should be easier second time round, and often it is better, as you know the problems and how to solve them, but it's all hassle you don't need.

I asked you in a PM once before Nev, out of interest why did you use the 340 instead of the 360? As the prop is known to be an issue, and with the abuse it would get from drifting I'd have thought the 360 with torque tube would be a more favourable option, unless there is something I've overlooked from a drifters point of view. Or was it that you were so involved and deep into the project with the 340 before learning of the differences or worrying about it?

Good luck with it all, keep us informed with the progress. Just as well your earlier bootlid wasn't installed yet.

Ouch, that sucks....it was a lovely car.

Yet another reminder people - check your box and diff oil levels! That's two 300s on this board which have been claimed by this problem. :(

BTW Nev...I never did get around to PMing you about it, but the clear indicator lenses you wanted...they'll be available for order directly from Radicast's website in a few weeks.

cheers

Thinking about it - this might not be a case of losing diff oil. Both of my rear wheels locked when my diff locked up, it certainly didnt spin out like Nev's :(

Hmmm duno, I reckon you just hit it lucky (well as lucky as you could be in that situation lol), any kind of turn on the steering with the rears locked at 80 is going to spin I would have thought
