Wanted...very cheap or free 1.4 carb

Post by Ali »

As per title, fancy having a little experiment but don't want to spend any money if possible as the car won't be leaving the drive!
cheers

Nah don't worry about it mate, I'll need the manifold aswell so its going to be easier to look for one locally, don't think its going to be worth it though, I don't think I could make the car a daily driver for the mileage I do with the kind of economy it would give and absolutely nothing left inside the car lol

I was trying to put the 1.4 on twin carbs, just using the two of the normal webber 32DIR carbs that the car comes with as standard, I do like the idea of putting a diesel in though, thought of it a while back when my dad got his V70 D5, guess it could be made to fit with one of these whiteblock adapters but the cost of the engine would be a killer! 163bhp and 251lb-ft torque would be nice in a 300 though! With it stripped and welded it'd drift in 3rd with ease and still get about 50mpg!

Hmmm not sure haven't looked into it, I guess the problem would be the 400 engine will be Renault derived and only suitable to go into a 340 and the torque is what kills the drivetrain. Better option would be to put something into the 360 as it'll take the torque, perhaps a 740 tdi engine?

Well my daily driver is a 360 but i've got my old car still which is a 340 1.4 which is the car that i've stripped etc, was considering doing twin carbs and putting it back on the road but I think it'll be too annoying to drive for the mileage I do and the petrol consumption. I was just saying if you were to go the diesel route then it'd be better to do it to a 360 as the drivetrain is stronger and diesels put out so much more torque

If you are that interested in having a diseasel have a word with Mr Farrell who has a Nissan 1.8TD engine in a 360 that needs restoring.....

LOL, good work Rupert! I was reading through thinking, hmmmm, I've got just the piece of equipment. It's sat there ready in a 360, ideally needs swapping into a better shell, i.e. with doors and an interior, 1.9 Nissan Diesel. I'm afraid I just haven't had the time, too many projects, too much work.........
