rear chassis corrosion +MOT

Post by srtames »

I have found a hole 1in by 1/4 in where the rear crossmember (supporting the front of petrol tank)joins the main chassis (outer side). There is a water trap inside where an internal box sandwiches .
Has anybody had their 340 fail the mot on this as it is more than 12 in from the spring hangars but near the gearbox crossmembers.
What is a reasonable figure to pay for plating this area ?
Thanks, Steve

My car has that part replaced, did cost over 100€ but it is coated with something (zink?) and won't rust for 10 years at least.

Also front strut has this plates for springs and those are easily rotten away so those are new in my car too, did cost 280€ in local car repair shop, cheap? Not!

My front doors have no bottom/floor at all, rusted away :(

But I have not had other holes, yet.

Hi Ari hows it going? That rear crossmember is nice. Expensive for what it is though.
