Radiator for a 340DL

Post by scurrient »

Hi,

Does anyone know where I can get a radiator for a 340DL, F reg, petrol, manual g/box, 1.7cc.

I tried the dog doo doo thing but it only lasted a week. Now leaking about 1l per 40 miles. This is probably urgent!

Thanks

Check "German, Swedish & French", also Euro Car Parts, or check eBay - always a few NOS ones kicking about

Hi,

Thanks for the comments.

I checked ebay after posting and found one 8 days way (no buy now); and one til dec '87 (what happened in jan '88?), as F plates puts me right about that time; and another for a 360 and another for a 440. Are the radiators compatible in these cars? (all 1.7/ manual/petrol)

Had a pleasant chat with the local volvo folk before posting here. Friendly, helpful (very, guy was patient whilst I got the car reg wrong), easy to contact, efficient, etc etc... just a different economic bracket!

Anyone ever changed a radiator on a 340? Anything I should know before the weekend?

It was the first thing I ever did to a car, so if that doesn't make you feel at ease.... it should ;) Do you have a haynes?

you'll need new jubilee clips, cos at least one of the hoses will be held on with those stupid one piece clips that you'll have to break to get off. Other than that should be fine.

Front grill off, drain and replace. Should be able to winkle out with just front grill off, but can take front bumper off if need be.

Good news about the ease of labour. No, havn't bought a haynes yet (lovely little thing hasn't really gone wrong in the year since I bought it). I know I should though.

Good tip on the clip!

One radiator is advertised as 'Suit a volvo 340 1987+'. Is there any difference between the 1.4 & 1.7 radiators?

Not the later ones, the earlier 1.4s were smaller radiators, but by the later ones changed to the same larger ones as 1.7s. B200s are different.

To sum up:

German Swedish & French could supply at £72 and £84 (?)

ebay company reconditions for £50

Local company reconditions for about £50 (depends on parts)

ebay private seller sent radiator for a different car (granted it was for a volvo, so not a total plonker).

Scrappy had a good looking one that once fitted leaked badly.

Chris (may he live a long life and have a thousand children) from Volvo300mania sold me one that works without leaking! Yeah yeah!

Thanks to all who helped.
