brakes
Hello
I know countless people must of asked this exact same question - which is why I took a gander around the forum searching for verious topics. It seems that the easiest / least expensive thing for a brake upgrade is calipers from a 240 (gerlings) and vented discs from a carlton. I've priced all this up and it would cost about £200 unless I can get some calipers from a brakers yard.
Just wondering how many people actually have this setup, and how they rate it?
Also is it as straight forward as it sounds, only complicated thing I can see is the plumbing bit with a T junciton in the hose?
Thanx

Well Makkiver has front discs from BMW 325 in his new GLT but I don't know how much work it will take.

hi,
Thanx for the info, have just sent Makkiver a pm asking how much work was involved.
I have another question - as my car is entering the funky elephant at the end of this month - was wondering if any of you have had and sump problems. The organisers of the event say a sump guard isn't required but might be a good idea to have - and looking at the volvo's sump it looks pretty damn sturdy to me, has anyone cracked theirs before or dented it?

Adam, why dont you think they'll work? I thought people had managed to fit them in the past?
I have a pair of 240 4 pots calipers, a pair of 480 calipers and a pair of Carlton discs to experiment with when I get my car back.
Marlon, IME the sump is very strong. In the couple of events I did in my old GLT the car took a severe hammering down some whites, but the sump show no signs of abuse. Other parts of the car didnt get away so lightly....!

The holes match up yes but to get a disk to fit it changes the centre line, plus you cant drop the caliper enough for big disks. I am trying it with 280mm disks tho

Well the wheel studs are on the same PCD, but that is about all they have in common with the 300. The problem trying to upgrade brakes on a 300 is that the disk on a 300 mounts behind the hub, whereas most modern cars the disks mount in front of the hub.

I think the Carlton discs are only 246mm or summat like that, so maybe they would be OK. We shall see!!
