Most of the drift cars are running stock 1.7's!

The main thing that is done is to fit some stiff springs and uprated shocks small wheels and rip out the interior.

Welcome! You don't live far away - I'm in Derby most weekends. If you see a loud-ass silver 360, that'd be me...

First things first, if you want to be taken seriously, this is a forum where most people put some care into their typing. It may sound harsh, and I know most cruise forums seem to be full of omghi2ubbq111, but my line on it is that if you can't type properly, how are you going to get on when we start talking about wiring up that turbo lump :)

Turbocharging is relatively straightforward on a 300, but it's not an easy thing even on cars with a bolt-on kit, never mind where some custom work is required. The only guy with (as far as I know) a running 1.7 turbo swapped 340 is a mechanic by trade. Do you really need a turbo to drift? Do you just want it for the cool factor? Both are valid reasons to go turbo, but it'd be a shame to put all that work in if you don't need to on either count.

Will this be your only car, or will it be a weekend-only project car? You can cut a lot of corners if you don't have to live with it full-time.

The formula for a dorifto 340 seems to be 1.7, slam, weld diff, small wheels (to lower the gearing), and partay!

Anyway, enjoy your time here, and I look forward to seeing you at a meet sometime with an interesting car :)

cheers

Has anyone of the drift boys started looking at final drives yet? 1.7 or a 2.0 on a 1.4CVT diff would be mental :D I'm thinking of doing it on Fake atm, but I don't want to loose MPG on motorway cruising, might do some maths for it.

Might find this useful:
http://www.fisc-racing.com/misc/ratios.html

Was using it when someone on here was offering a silly diff. Think it worked out to about 5krpm at 70mph :)

I'm in the process of swapping a B14 diff into the 360. Either a 3.82 from a 5speed, or a 3.91 from a early 4 speed.

cheers

That will be lot more fun to drive after that, but you may find out that 1st gear will become completely useless after that, however that is not important :D

I got beaten by a new Tigra the other day, so I have to raise my game...
Diff, e-fan, exhaust, B23E and MSD ignition...that'll be a start.

cheers

Do bear in mind that for drifting purposes controlled power is usually considered best. To that end a LPT setup may suit better than a 'balls out' high boost engine. The turbo lag that would result would make feathering the throttle hard, so a smooth linear delivery would be better.

Also the only place an e-fan will get you anymore horses is on a dyno because of the lack of airflow ;)

Once you start moving, the fan will windmill and sap very little power at all :o

I figure they died out for a reason. Once it's locked up to actually provide cooling, it's bound to add significant drag, especially at high RPM. I doubt it makes a measureable difference in the midrange.

I'm primarily swapping because my viscous coupling is locked solid and a replacement will cost a small fortune.

cheers
