Fake members EXTERMINATION
This evening I have made some changes on the board because it was becoming very very annoying to delete manually all the fake members only here to put porn links or things like that.
One of the consequences is that the signature isn't allowed anymore. Concerning the website in your profile, you can edit it when you want but new members don't have the possibility to put a link on the moment they suscribe to the board (to avoid automatic bots subscriptions). I also made code changes making very difficult bots to subscribe here.
If you see any "strange" member again on the board, please let me know it here asap!

The Southampton Kitesurf site was too, I found a solution that didn't involve stopping the signature, although it is now not possible to set a signature when a user signs up. I think the reason we didn't use it on here was Aymat decided that they were a different bot, but I'll chat to you about it at some point!

Not at all! The "visual confirmation" was of course enabled on V3M since loooong time ago, bots are now smart enough to bypass that visual confirmation when you suscribe to a PhpBB forum... I think that my solution was really the best, but for how long I don't knowantiekeradio wrote:if i'm right there is a plugin for phpBB to require the copying of some characters from an image, before a member can register the account.
this is effective against all regbots.
Not good because:antiekeradio wrote:e-mail activation is another possibility, that way you can delete the unactivated accounts after some time.
1. you need again to check and delete the accounts manually (what I don't want to do anymore each day!!)
2. activated or not activated, the problem is the same cause the profile with the commercial or porn link is visible on the board...
