Art, wtf?

Post by jtbo »

Somehow I found looking at Sotheby's catalog, there was painting, all it contains is 6 vertical stripes, red blue and green coulours, wide stripes cover hole painting as there is absolutely nothing else.

Guess what that price? $15000-20000

Now maybe I'm bit simple and so but what about I make painting that has just few stripes in it and put it to ebay with price tag of $1000, add little background story for it and some will start bidding and I get rich, right?

This thing has puzzled my mind long time and I never has quite understand it why and how it works and why not everyone is trying to earn this way as it looks way too easy

I'll never understand modern art :( Just copy it and put it on e-bay as a fake. Just make sure that you very clearly state that it's a fake ;)

Reasonable offers starting from £1000 are accepted

Ok, maybe I don't understand it either, but problem is I even can't understand how there would be anything to understand :P

No, it was more like that my painting but lines were all even and vertically.

I think it was made 1958, anyway looks quite simple and yet so expensive.

I guess that two is actually one as I had thumb at middle of hand with quotations, once again, lol.

I checked chav and burberry from wikipedia, I think I now understand again bit more and indeed that painting resembles bit burberry style, but I would say it is not quite that, but more like modern style from 70's and 80's with reflections from architechture of building from that time, painting seem to express loss of indivudualism to mass production and productivity.

Am I good or not?

Lol, I have actually painted one painting in my life, I just have no patience to concentrate to one single thing enough long for painting, I can only do multitasking things :P

I have not found any information yet from ebay if it is allowed to sell something that is not physical object but data like jpeg image etc, everything there seem to be prints and so. It would be interesting test what that kind of "painting" would sell

But seriously I would like to know what is the thing we don't see in this kind of art :P

Well I believe software can be sold on e-bay with download, so I'm sure digital image could be sold. You'd have to only show a low res version though, or people could copy it. doh!

Ahhh, now, I can't be sure of this, but a logical engineering approach I've always taken to it is this...

A fool and his money are soon parted... a rich plonker can be pursuaded that something that is placed in front of him must be good, as it is expensive. Therefore, he must have it.

I'm logical, I know the thing put in front of me is cr*p, therefore, I don't want it.

Problem then comes when I listen to music, which is the limit of art for me, and yet, I know I make irrational choices with my tastes in music. Thats unlogical, and it breaks :(
