The voltmeter needs to be done properly as it's bodged at the mo (as you can clearly see), but pleased overall. Just gotta wire up the oil gauges now!

Oh, and she also got a wash and polish last week, and is looking pretty nice I think:

Too hot to do any more work, time for some beers me thinks!

Cheers guys. Map light was a birthday present from Lizzie last year, so yeah it is for her :)

Didint compete last night in the end. Entries were a bit low, so it wouldnt have been all that competitive, and with Lizzie living in Epsom it would have been a lot of driving. Coupled with a few other things we decided to give it a miss as with us pulling out they still had enough entried to run. Definately out on the 28th though

Oh, and I also wired the driving lights up to a modified fog light switch, so I can now have main beam on without the driving lights (mainly for event purposes). Bit crude, but never mind:

When I can be bothered I might try modifying the switch with a better graphic, but that's a pretty minor issue for the moment.

Looks very good mate. Nice and clean indeed! It was certainly warm today, we beat that temp, just, today!

I like the volt gauge. How much fun did you have getting the ashtray out? Those two screws through the sides are a PITA, as even with a right angled screw driver through the clock and cigar lighter holes, you couldn't get a 90 degree turn each time due to the depth to get into the next slot on the crosshead screw! I'd broken my most useful right angled screw driver attachment, but managed to just about get it to grip to remove the screws. Just out of interest what is the panel made from?

What's planned for the blank clock panel? Switches? I was half tempted to move some switches there instead of using the ashtray hole, but decided it was all to much hassle and I didn't like the positions of the available switches.

Certainly looks like you're looking after it, useful mods, both aesthetically and for practicality.

The ashtray just pulled out I think, no fuss at all. I had to remove part of the dash behind the gauge so it would go all the way in, but that was done in a very ungraceful manor (big screw driver and a pair of pliers...)

I bought the panel off ebay - it was a small sheet of black plastic with a 52mm hole in the middle for about a tenner. TBH I made a complete hash of it - I'm not good at precision engineering, so I'm gonna get someone to make another one in exactly the right size for me.

The clock panel was originally going to be a switch for the map light, but I realised my new map light has a switch built into it, then I thought about a digi clock but the stereo has one of them, so not really sure now.

On the oily side of things the cambelt has finally been changed, along with the water pump, rocker cover gasket and auxillary belts. Oh and the ARB mounting bushes changed for poly ones.

Ah right, so you only dropped the ashtray itself out and not the housing behind it? I needed the extra space and it made wiring easier. I was goiing to go for the ungraceful, brute force and ignorance after struggling, but being me that wouldn't do, so it can be put back if I need to!

Any joy on finding someone to make a panel? I need to make myself a panel to fit, so I could do something for you if you like? I'm gonna fix mine just through the sides of the frame, so completely unseen. Let me know anyway, I reckon if you mounted the gauge high enough there would be room for something else below, a switch or some LED's?

Ah yes I remember what you mean now. Yeah I did struggle with those screws, hence the brute force approach. If you removed it properly then yeah, you could definately mount it a lot more cleanly as you could have tow 'legs' on the panel to put the screws back into I guess. And with the housing removed you'd definately be able to mount the gauge higher, so I'm sure there'd be room for other stuff below.

TBH I'm more interested in functionality than form - as long as it works, and it doesnt look too bad I'll be happy.

I've sorted a new panel out - £10 for something made to measure which isn't too bad.

Ah right, that sounds reasonable. Infact those tow legs disappear when you remove the inner frame, so that's why I'm gonna attach the panel through from the clock and cigar lighter uprights into the panel. SHould come out ok if I get time to do it.
