Hi There

Just thought id introduce myself.
I have just bought a volvo 340 1.7 GL on Ebay for a bargain price.
The car was purchased as a friend and i are taking part in the Student Gumball Rally (studentgumballrally.com) in September and we thought it could be good fun.

Having done a lot of internet searching, predominantly to see how we can get more power from our 1.7l engine I have since learned through this site and Driftworks.com that the volvo 340 could be realistically used for drifting.

I have always known about and been interested in drifting but up untill this point I have never owned a rear wheel drive car.
Looking at this site and others has got me excited with the prospect of getting the volvo sideways!!

Anyway just thought id say hello!

If anybody has any advice suggestions on how to improve the volvo or if anybody else has a 360 drift project on the go then i would be interested to hear from you.

Cheers
Sam

Hi Sam and welcome to the forum ,

you will get all the help and advice you could ever hope for (
and more probably ) from this lot ,

they are a friendly and predominately house trained mob so dont worry about asking what may seem the most obscure questions .

enjoy your 340 and post some pictures when you can

I am guessing its this one

Looks like someones gone at the spoiler with some white paint!

Have a search through the forums, there are a couple of dedicated drift cars on this forum (bennett and PIMP being the members to look at). Me and a few others do road rallies in them, which generally involves a small amount of sideways, but not continously ;)

The 1.7 is the one to go for really, go a revvy engine, tight clutch spring so losing traction is easy, just make sure you're shocks are decent, and you'll be sorted. More power, depends on cash really. I wanna see a 1.7 on a set of twin 40's, but getting them and setting them up isn't gonna be cheap, I'm going 400 turbo engine when the funds come in, same block, as is the R19 16V. Have a look in the Dyno Results thread (not sure where, have a search again) which should show the curves I'm getting out of my 1.7. The numbers ain't much use, but not far out, but give you some idea of the torque curve shape.

I didnt want to scare Sam off when I am sure you will be answering a lot of his technical questions .

(anyway by the time hes checked out the pictures he will be able to work out what reprobates we are lol )

Intriuging, last thing i heard he was 16V ing his redblock turbo! I'm not gonna go the carb route anyway, I do electronics, so it's simple for me to hack cool stuff into the engine. Just wondered how it'd do. Think it's what Nev is gonna bring out next too.

Mark's page is years old now. That red car met a sticky end involving a crash barrier on a motorway.

I think Nev is putting sidedrafts on a 16v 1800.

cheers

Last I heard he was going for a 2.0 16v on TB's, I can't wait to see/hear the thing :)

Ooh glad you found us, that looked a nice car - 340's in black are virtually unheard of - I've certainly never seen one, only 360's.
