"custom" exhaust modification adventure

Post by filthyjohn »

So, last saturday, my mate says "fancy taking me to leeds to pick up some bucket seats?". He's banned for another 8 months now, and building a very interesting 205 while he waits, so of course i agree. We're doing about 80 down the A1 when the backbox just snaps where the pipe goes into the box at the front. Cue loads of swearing and funny looks from other motorists.

Image

That's all that was left. After driving all over leeds to get the seats, and going to a gig with some mates, i got pretty sick of sounding like a WRC entrant :?
But, i don't get paid for another week yet, so i can't get a proper backbox. So i raid the shed, and come up with this as a bodge 8)

Image

Sounds a lot quieter now, but the custom ziptie mounts might be a worry! How much am i likely to pay for a backbox? They haven't been discontinued or something stupid like that have they?

I've just replaced my backbox.

Volvo have discontinued the part...

I bought a Bosal box off eBay for £30 inc. delivery. Bosal is crap accarding to Foggy and Steve (who has a Bosal system). But to be honest it seems pretty solid to me. This guy has a shed full of exhausts and may have more 360 ones:

Try messaging him.

also found this guy:

http://www.catalyticuk.co.uk/

Who said he's supply for about 50 quid inc. VAT and delivery - don't know what brand his stuff is, but he claims it's quality.

Foggy recommends walker.

The other option is a full custom s/s sytem for 250-350 quid!

Might be worth checking the mounts too, from the middle box back (where it bolts to the torque tube on a 3 fold tin clamp) it looks very twisted...

You'd be wrong then Steve!
The mounts are comletely different for a start, atleast the system on that peco thing that adam sold me wouldn't fit to ray without some MAJOR work needed, hence it never got used

Cheers for the offer mate, i'd have taken you up on it if i'd seen the post before i went to the motor discount. I should have one friday morning, until then i'll beef up the bodge job by replacing the zip ties with massive jubilee clips i 'borrowed' from work!
though i must admit i'm rather enjoying the noise this backbox gives, and the 'pop' noise changing from 1st to 2nd! :P :) I must look a bit of a wally driving about but i'm having fun all the same!!

I did it like this: you weld a little pipe that falls over the original in the sportdemper. Than you make a slide in the welded pipe. (like most original pipes)

Its been proved well

Its a bycycle pipe with a way to big (absorbtion) pipe.
