Recently I've been thinking about installing an eletronic fan on to the GLT. Last week I managed to pick up a Kenlowe fan controllor cheap, so just need a fan now. What are people's opinions on blow or suck fans (no smut please )?

It just so happened I had an old fan and shroud off the BX in the garage so thought I'd see if it would fit. Here's what it looks like (apologies for the crap quality, couldnt be bothered to go and get the proper camera):

A pretty damn good fit - wouldnt be too difficult to make a couple of mounts. That fan can shift huge amounts of air and can just about cope with keeping the mi16 engine cool in 30 degrees in traffic. As a bonus you can easily put a 2nd one if for hurricane-like cooling (what I currently have in my BX). But the obvious draw back is that the Hella grill wont fit, so unless I can sort out some spot light and brackets to replace them thats a no go. Might be useful info for someone though.

So the next step is to find a sucky fan for the engine bay side of the rad. Can anyone recommend a decent one that would fit fairly easily and not be too expensive?

Out of interest how does the 340 fan mount on the rad? Could the mounts be adapted for a bigger fan?

The 340 mount is a metal frame, about 6" wide, in a kinda of H shape, with the fan mounted in the middle. Come round after work if you want to look/measure up mate!

Problem I can see is the fan sticks out a fair way, but that shouldn't be a prob if you are removing the viscous. The rotor on the '40 fan isn't silly small, not sure if you can fit bigger on though, or what volume of air the OEM actually shifts.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, it bolts onto the metal cross members above and below the rad iirc.

we have a 40 fan fitted between the grille and the rad!! it only gets turned on from a switch when standing still and sucks external cool air and then blows it through rad towards the engine[if you get my drift] !

haha.. saw Ali at the scrapyard on Friday afternoon (just as I was about to leave) then spent bloody ages helping him and a mate check out some e-fans and taking them up to the 340 in there to see how they went

He's fitted twin fans infront of the rad for additional cooling after drifting when the car is sitting idle and apparently taken pics throughout the install - but he's having difficulty getting on the forum at the moment

Finally managed to get onto the forum at uni, my router has obviously gone off Volvos at home! Pics of what I got up to....





Also relocated the air filter as its pointless being on the hot side..



Then proceeded to swap back to the v-cam and for some unknown reason the car won't start now so maybe I let the timing belt slip a bit

Looking very good there. Shame the Hella grill gets totally in the way as I've got all the bits for the same sort of setup.

Have you kept the viscous fan still? My idea is to get rid of it completely.

The air filter is something else I was thinking about too, which reminds me I need to put a post in the wanted section

Yeah I wanted to keep the viscous fan, I haven't done it for power, just to aid cooling, especially as with the drifting its constant abuse followed by sitting stationary waiting for the next go

thats a sweeet setup you got there. What car was the donor for the fan. It looks very neat!

One fan is from a Rover and the other is from a sCavalier best bet would be to get two Rover fans, as far as i remember they were the same on the 400s and old non bubble shape 200s in the scrappy that we went to. Then I just took a hacksaw to the shrouds and cut them to shape and make up two little brackets, dead easy
