i think its fare to say she runs like a bag a shit.

and its not what the shaky problem the carb and intel are all bolted down fine no wobble or anything.

if i drive along and suddenly floor it, instead of picking up rapidly it starts to die slightly and then hesitantly pulls off.

does not like revving much, i can remember the car would rev to 55mph in 2nd all the way no probs and was fine but not 45 is as much as it will do sensibly.

when shes cold its worse than me at getting up in the morning!!

its the 1400 340 and is on 118k miles, is the engine nakerd?

ow and its not ignition and in my experience it feels like more of a fuel problem weather it be carb probs or lack of compression or what ever, had new dizzy etc etc and made little differance!

give the carb a good refurbish and have it rebuilt. if its turns out that this wasnt the problem, then thats at least one suspect out the way.

Does adding choke (when hot) help?
The carb may be bolted down tight, but that doesn't mean it isn't leaking. Done the unlit blowlamp / WD40 test?

Likely culprits:
Ignition: Plugs, leads, cap, rotor arm, corroded coil terminals.
Fuel: Clogged / fault idle solenoid, air leak (carb, manifold, breather system...lots of possibilities on a 1400).

Whereabouts in Cornwall are you chap? My Gran lives in Truro, and I'm down there fairly regularly. It'll probably be Christmas now, but I could take a look, or just go for a pint or something?

i work in truro, mostly live near redruth, girl friend lives in st austel and i go may dads in camborne alot, so i get round quite alot!!

yeah would be great to have someone look over it who knows what they are on about, as said its my brothers car but i use it when i my car is broken (quite ofton) previously it was my mums car for few years and i can see me owning it in the not so distant future when bro gets new car!

but if your down i will grab it off him an u can come see it, i really dont know then renault engines at all myself.

choke dont make much differance but it needs it when cold and full choke, rebuilding carb sounds like either alot of work or alot of money!

my car should be done tomorrow so will get it over the pit on tuesday! i know it had a stainless exhaust fitted before we bought it, was this a factory optional extra???

I'm not aware there was a factory stainless system, but plenty of people make them. Who knows?

I'm not sure we can manage someone who knows what they're talking about, but I can take a look
